Vehicle-shredding plant to come up in Thiruvananthapuram

Quote:
A Rs.120-crore plant for shredding different class of used motor vehicles and miscellaneous goods to add value to recycled scrap will come up in the city.
Also note:
Quote:
Mr. Thomson hinted at taking a decision to ban vehicles more than 15 years old from the road as done recently in Delhi.

Re: Vehicle-shredding plant to come up in Thiruvananthapuram

Excerpts from from that link,
Quote:
The shredding plant, to come up in six hectares of land, will enable the government to remove vehicles involved in road accidents and abkari cases and dumped on the premises of police stations, government buildings, and carriageways, creating eyesore and nuisance, Chief Secretary Sri. Jiji Thomson said.
If you do not return within a short while after parking your car at vulnerable points, what you can expect is a sackful of metallic scrap.
Jokes apart, would the project be viable, if the exclusive purpose is as mentioned.

It would if the second quote is to be implemented.

Which I believe is a stillborn, considering the strength of labor unions in Kerala.

Get all vehicles checked for their fitness and if they do meet them, let them run on the roads else get them scrapped. No point in slogging dead horses any more.

First to go will be state run buses and century old trucks!
