I don't see a reason to conclude root cause as AT transmission. It is the driver's responsibility to know the system and not the other way around!

Re: Customer drives Hyundai i20 display car through the showroom window!

Would this have been prevented if the car was equipped with Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) , which is expected to be mandatory in India in the next few years?

Yes. AEB would have stopped the car as it approached the first obstacle, I think it was the showroom window.

Re: Customer drives Hyundai i20 display car through the showroom window!

This accident is scary!

Showrooms have separate test drive cars precisely for customers to try and experience the car and its features. Why does one need to start a car which is inside the showroom?

Most showrooms only turn on half ignition to switch on the battery to show MID, infotainment display etc inside the showroom. But then the conversation should shift to a Test Drive car.

I think the Hyundai showroom is also partly to be blamed. Overzealous sales personnel may risk such incidences.

Taking this logic further, the CVT is available only on Sportz+ and Asta (O) variants, both of which have alloys. Full wheel covers are available only in the Magna+ variant which offers only the manual option. So the argument that she might have mistakenly pressed the accelerator does not hold true.
