Re: Best ways to make the most of your daily commute

I have a unique idea which I put to use to make my daily commutes less boring and stressful.

Using the Quickride app, I generally do carpooling. Sometimes the other person is a complete stranger (but verified user so no safety concerns as such).

What it does is that I get to make new conversations, make new friends and most important of them all, it helps me to keep my irritation levels down due to the otherwise chaotic traffic. For example, If there is a biker or a Chota Hathi tempo cutting me across dangerously, and if I am driving alone, I get irritated and sometimes angry (though I try to control it as far as I can). But when I am driving with someone, there is no longer that negative reaction to the otherwise mad traffic.

The other times when I am driving alone, I make sure to put on soothing songs and my favourite songs on the saved playlists from Amazon Music/Youtube Music etc.

Ofcourse, whenever possible, I try to make my commute during non-rush hour. This also helps.

Re: Best ways to make the most of your daily commute

Just to add to the list of great suggestions, I love Radio Garden
Zero Ads, Music for every mood, Loud DanceFM, Soft Hindi Oldies.
You will all find your own favourites.

I don’t drive to work, I ride, and I feel I need to concentrate those 35+ minutes.
On longer drives, if my wife and kid have it their way, they are always on Amazon Music, listening to their own favourites, but when I get my chance, it’s Radio Garden

Re: Best ways to make the most of your daily commute

These days I listen to all the Youtube news/podcasts like the Print, ANI etc while driving, apart from YT music app. It makes up for the painfully slow driving that one has to do sometimes on single lane peripheral roads leading to Hinjawadi IT park in Pune. That mostly happens because of some nonchalant tractor or dumper or JCB that merrily cruises at 5kph while creating a virtual train of cars behind. And who can challenge such behemoths especially in village like setting.

That's Pretty Much me! Would love to know some of your favorites.

On a side note, would love to have a community discussion on "Criminally Underrated Songs you love to listen. Category A-India, Catergory B-Outside India. Is there any such thread?

Why don’t you come up with that thread along with your selections, will be a nice one for sure.

Re: Best ways to make the most of your daily commute

Just realized that I've been a big fan of stand up comedy, play it on a long commute and the time just disappears in laughter. Try Biswa on Amazon Prime.

On i20, if you are getting 26kmpl ... Your car must be on GOD mode.

The max in the city I could get is 11kmpl and on NH 17kmpl...

Seriously... How light-footed are you?

Yeah that is what we get if driven like how we normally drive and if stuck in bumper to bumper then can go as low as 7-8. The trick hear is to select the best route and time and also most important to be feather light on pedal.

Re: Best ways to make the most of your daily commute

Tried everything from podcasts, music, radio, calling people, thinking, strategizing, etc. Then I switched to a two wheeler and cut my travel time by more than half. Rather than utilising time sitting alone in car and wasting fuel all the while, it gives me more time at destination.

Re: Best ways to make the most of your daily commute

Maybe not the best way but have seen folks just use the commute as quite time. They just use google assistant/siri to collect cool thoughts action points etc. Other than that just time to talk to oneself or reflect
