City vs Elantra

hey petrolheads

my first post on P2M..

Time: Fri nite around 10:45
Location: Palm Beach Road (PB), Mumbai

Me: City (1.5Exi 2000)
Vs: Elantra

--

Had gone for an evening drive wid sm scorpions playin in my system

Was cruising on the PB at around 100 kmph . Took a u -turn sm whr ahead.. got a call on my cell.. so was waitin in the last lane on my return trip.

Saw an elantra shoot by ... must be at 120 atlst.

Me left after around 5-10 seconds... thought may be I catch up

1st gear at 2000 rpm... 2nd at 5000 rpm... n so on.. got upto 140 kmph.. n actually caught up with the chap

The acceleration of the CITY .. reliable n mind blowing as usual

Was on his tail... he increased his speed ... me followed n finally crossed the magical figure of 100 .... 100 miles ph.

There was still a band of 1500 rpm to the redline of the engine.. cud have comfortably gone upto 180 n overtaken him... but "I mite b crazy.. m not stupid".

Had achieved what i wanted.. caught up wid elantra goin at 120+ wid me strtin after 10 secs.

Thoda safety dekhna padta hai afterall

Finally me took a left turn off the PB to vashi.

Had a gr8 time

So much for Korean Technology ... n

3 cheers for our good old city

ciao

Good to know you didn't try and overtake him, that would have been highly dangerous.

LOL, i like that, catch up with them and let them go. Mission accomplished!!!

As for me, the only car i wanna race against is a Skoda RS. Had a chance in blore but, unfortunately i was driving a carb M 800...... HAHAHA !!! By the time i hit 100kmph, he was long gone.

When i first opened this thread i thought it was return of the 'Maybach'.
then i realised it wasnt the NHC beating the elantra but the OHC.

Anyway, was that elantra a petrol or diesel?
It wouldnt be too easy to catch up...it does have some amount of performance, maybe the guy wasnt even trying.
But i wouldnt argue about ohc being better than the elantra.
Drive safe dude.

not sure whether it was petrol or diesel.. hv a feeling it was petrol

the Elantra does have a higher power band as compared to the city.s

BUT wht mattered her was the seamless delivery of power.. the low rpm torque.. wherein the city scores many a mile

it is good to know that you thought about safety even while doing some great speeds , something which many people don't really think of .

I wouldn't bet on that.

0-100
Elantra Petrol - 11.9
Elantra Diesel - 12.59
City 1.5 - 12.1

ACI - i couldn't care less
OD - 12.1 secs

The only consolidation is that the Elantra hits 100 in 2nd while the City does it in 3rd. So take another .4 - .5 off the 12.1 for shift time.

U know, cars that need to shift at 96-98 aren't really that impressive in their 0-100 but in the long run you see the diff. Try checking the City's 0-90 and you'll be very happy with it.

Vtec does 0-60mph (96kmph) in 8.93 secs. For proof and pics - contact GTO and Rehaan.

Depends on wind, surface conditions, air temp and the person behind the wheel. So don't worry, all you need to know is that the City is a fast car.

Really? I'm pretty sure that it hits 100 in the second - just about, but it does. Anything more than 105 tho, and you have to change it. I guess it depends on how you push it...

On the speedo yes, but not in terms of true speed. The 2nd gear of the City 1.5 is designed to redline at 96kmph@6800rpm. The Vtec is good for 100.67kmph@7100rpm but there's always that 2% error due to tyre deformation n all so it really does 98kmph (true speed).

If 0-100 is really that important then you might want to reduce your final drive ratio from 4.058 to 3.798. This will make your 2nd gear hit 103@6800rpm.

A simpler way would be to remove the rev limiter and revv the engine to, say 7200 rpm. Dom can help you with that, he's tuned a City 1.5 that revvs to almost 8000 rpm.
