Team-BHP - Driving with a guy with HID behind you

Was driving at night yesterday when i saw a guy flashing his HL like crazy yesterday. Even weirder, it was changing colour, yellow-blue-yellow-blue etc. I thought he was just showing off , epecialy since he was driving rather slowly and was far behind, and didnt show any other signs of wanting to overtake . Turned on my rear fog lamps to annoy him back :D

Finally couldnt bear it any more and let him pass to give him a piece of my mind. Turns out it was a skoda with both his HID and regular lamps turned on, and he was not flashing. As the car was pitching along with the unevenness of the road, the HID's line of illumination was moving in and out of my line of sight in the RVM's , causing the blue and yellow alternate colours.

Has anyone else experienced this ?

Yup very common here in the states. I keep thinking the guy is flashing me and wonder why till I realise it's the HID's which look like blinking when the car bobbs up and down.

Even I noticed it a few days back in a Laura,the light beam looked as if it was moving up and down,even when the car was moving smoothly.

But trust me HID causes a lot of Glare through RVM's I was riding ahead my friend who was on my Zma with HID

Slightly O/T but also because some H4 HID's are Low Xenon/High Halogen.

Similarly cars with H1/H7 combos are usually 6000k HID low and regualr halogen in the high.

Though I get your drift on this thread.

I had tough times with ACE auto. Those guys with HL's on high beam will follow closely and it will be hurting at the rear view mirrors.

I will let them pass and just make the dog eat its own food by flashing the HL on high beam for few kms before slowing down.

Absolutely,TATA ACE and Santro has very bright High Beams,they kill you through the RVMs.

And regarding HIDs,its a nightmare when someone with HIDs driving behind you.

i usually give them way when i'm in slow driving mood and when i'm in fast mode,then i dont care as nobody comes near.

Anyways,having tints on side/rear glasses also help a bit.

Recently I have seen a Zen which had a parking lilght which was flashing continuously. If you come from the Opposite side its really heart.
Again the Big/Small car driver they put all the lights including the FOG light in the City Street. High Beam + Fog.
Don't Really understand if there visibility is really less... If so then they should keep them self away from Driver seat @ night.:Frustrati

forget HIDs - cars following me with high beams on drives me crazy - the reflection from the mirrors (two ORVMs and the IRVM of the palio) blinds me temporarily and i make it a point to let him pass. i dont have sun films to filter some of the light.

the padmini has anti-glare IRVM - thank god! (no sun films) :)

Why not shift your IRVM to night mode?
Almost every car nowadays has these, and if your car doesn't it costs 400rs(indica). A worthwhile and necessary mod

Which all cars/vehicles have this feature? My Scorpio & Safari don't have. What should I do?

Another practical solution - put the reflective type sun film on the rear windscreen. The vehicle behind you then will see the exact reflection of his headlight the way others see. That should cause him to either distance himself away from your car or dip his lights or fear of being blinded himself.
