Siren on car !!

The other day I was standing on the side of a busy road and I suddenly heard a siren (not the exact police one, but quite similar). Looked instinctively towards the sound and noticed that it was a private Zen with some young guy sitting inside using a siren to make way in the traffic to get through faster. Nuts and Crazy !

Is this legal ? Isn't there a law against this kind of misuse ?

saw a similar car but a sx4 black with red lights on the roof on the four corners. though there was no siren on when i saw the car i feel most probably that's what they are intended to use.

The lights (no idea about the siren) is only to be used when the official is present in the vehicle. If the driver is found driving solo with the light, it is a punishable offence!

And no, it is not legal to have these siren's in private vehicles.

Sirens are only allowed in emergency vehicles. Even official cars with a red/blue beacon cannot have siren legally.

Pilot cars or say Escort vehicles for bureaucrats, ministers etc ,Police vehicles,Ambulances are meant to have Siren and they can use it just to make headaway in traffic.

But totally illegal and punishable offence if private vehicles found using them.

Correct, but are the offenders ever punished? In Haryana every Tom, Dick & Harry who thinks himself/herself a VIP hoots the siren to get right of the way.

I've seen cops standing mutely to all this siren blaring.

Ask mayawati. She might be able to find a solution. If you remember she banned selling all this Light.

By the way did any one heard the Horn from the private bus horn in Bangalore. Most of the Bus uses a horn that sound like Mumbai Electric train.

Hehehehe, it means move over or you are going to be flattened by the locomotive behind you. Jeez

I thought there was a maximum allowed decibel rating as per the law. Don't think anyone follows it though, neither does the law bother about enforcing it

BMTC buses are not better than a loco. They just muster or keep going their way straight or wherever they get some space.

Sirens are not legially allowed on pvt vehicles. It is punishible offence if they catch them.
