Palio is palio....

Deccan Herald - The great escape

Quote:
The mangled remains of the car clearly indicates that the couple really had a close shave. The train rammed into their car and dragged it for nearly 200 metres. The accident occurred below Lingarajpuram flyover.
There are no pics in the website. But it was on the paper. Got to say that car withstood the impact pretty well. That for a ram from train....

But then...
Quote:
An eyewitness Gregory Fernandes told Deccan Herald: “The Government norms prohibit use of unmanned railway crossings. After the construction of the flyover in 2004, the Government blocked the crossing by constructing walls on both sides. People demolished the walls and even removed police barricades to use the crossing. Residents of K G Halli, Banaswadi, Kammanahalli and Bharatinagar use this route routinely under the eye of the BBMP.”

All I can say is "Please don't try this with your palio".

And I wonder if they couldn't even hear the train? Its not that trains are that silent - especially when near a crossing.

Just plain lucky the occupants of Palio were. A train ramming into a car and the results are more often than not, fatal. Never even take the risk of crossing those unmanned rail tracks without looking carefully.
And I dont know why people break those walls, barriers, etc and go for this suicidal path.
I think the case must be filed against the car driver.

Are here the photographs of this accident :

Thank God they got out with minor injuries.

But why did they do this? Take a illegal crossing!

Dumb & Dumber! Hence proved, education does not ensure common sense!

good to know that they escaped with minor injuries... really a dumb driver... may be the auto guy was smarter...

Quote:
Pincho was literally the man in the hot seat. With both wheels on his side of the car in the air, he did a remarkable job of staying calm. “The only thought on my mind was that Shilpa should be safe. This is a real miracle. Must thank the strong build of Fiat Palio,” he gushed.
& he thanks the PALIO's build...So does that conclude the TANK build debate on team-bhp. ......LOL...just kidding...

It was in the local news yersterday - saw the car too !

True, Palio showed its characters:
1. Car broke down on level crossing
2. Occupants couldn't get out - maybe the doors were jammed.
3. Car withstood the impact with train, though its a writeoff

Hats off to Palio for living its tradition

The Occupants are lucky to have survived the crash. Had it been any other car, it could have been bad.

The Palio's build has proven its worth here.

Please read through the news article before drawing your own conclusions
1) The car did not broke down . The couple had stooped the car in nervousness.
2)The doors did not jam .
3)Yes the car took the impact very well
The occupants escaped with minor injuries.
Just an example of FIAT design and engineering

Quote:
The shaken couple, after taking treatment as outpatients, recalled their breath-stopping experience: “We were on our way to Kammanahalli and our vehicle was right behind an autorickshaw. Seeing the three-wheeler crossing the railway track below the flyover, we also followed. We did not notice the train approaching us, as there was a steep curve to the left of the bridge, adjacent to the retaining wall which blocked the view. When our car was about to cross the track, we saw the train zooming in and were so confused that we stopped. Before we knew what was happening, the engine had started dragging the car. We thought we are going to die. The next moment, the car turned turtle and fell off the track. We managed to get out with minor injuries. We still can’t believe we are alive.”
I don't understand what do you get by defaming any particular manufacturer , so much so that you ready to lie/make your own stories.

MODS: PLEASE take note of this.

Have only heard of these things happening near villages. But in the heart of the city? How careless could they have been.

The train was slowing down. The driver himself said that in the interviews on kannada news. It was pushed through.
The car was stuck, he revved and could not get out of it.

Palio was in no way responsible for the irresponsible and stupid behaviour by the driver.

At what speed and angle did the train hit the car?

I think we should call Top Gear guys to India and make them repeat this test on cars from different makes. The hit should be done at different speeds and angles. It will be fun.
