Saturday night, me and a friend hop over to a 'friends's friend's' place in Jorbagh before heading out for a drink at shaloms

It's around 10:30, not much traffic and my good buddy is driving his black Optra 1.8 at insanely high speeds , i try and keep up since i'd have gotten lost on the way (See, if you had me a a rally navigator in the Paris Dakar Rally, we'd probably reach Cairo - I'm that bad at directions and remembering routes) - and the other cars are way behind driving sanely.

So near the Sai Baba mandir - on the way to def col - lajpat nagar via the flyover (i hope i remembered that right) , my baleno (Beam Blue, stock - just 195/15R14's Michelin MXF Sports) and my friends classy and extremely comfy Optra 1.8 (195/65R14 Goodyear Eagle NCT3)..Well, back to the 'drag' we had - we somehow pulled up at a stop light side by side, windows down - so i ask him 'wanna drag'
while his gf and my friend in my car are shouting no , he grins and says 'why not'

so i hand my cigarette over to my buddy , pull up the handbrake, reve it up to 5000 and start slipping the clutch - GREEN - offw e go, I'm leading , way ahead , shift into second, still ahead ... around 70 he's catching up and then I hit the rev limiter at 100-110 and am slow to upshift - damn , how could i be that silly stupid: .

So he overtakes me at around 110 as i shift into third - since im on the right and he's in the left lane - coming down the flyover , he has to slow - i pass him doing 130 - go ahead , reach an intersection with some traffic , slow down and let him lead the way again - when i get out of the car, my hair are kind blown up and spiky - i'm looking like a madder , younger version of albert einstein. , My friend's gf is annoyed as her hair are blown all over and looks like medusa , and my friend (who's just returned from 2 years of studies in the us so getting used to delhi roads has been difficult for him ) is a bit shaky.....

well, a good time was had by all , we were a bit dumb to drag on city streets at that time but i guess, enthusiasm overtook us.

Anyway, my friend with the optra was might impressed by the baleno and we're planning on having a drag at 3 pm or so on the DND - completely sober , of course .

You mean super low profile or is it a typo..
anywayz great race there a Baleno is faster then a Optra agree:

ummm, iceman...please read original civic vs baleno post where all disclaimers regarding "other" civics are made well in advance, before my loud mouth gets ahead of me!!!

would be fun to watch tazim's baby in action, though! anytime soon likely??

actually, i love hondas. owned 2 citys (ohc type 2) before the suzie...and their engines ARE better...but damn, man, you want to show someone that your car can be quick without having a big H, and i don't mean Hyundai!!!

Well if an Optra goes on with a Baleno its surely the Baleno which is gonna win. In some racing story posted by someone on this forum the Baleno beats Optra hands down..

Well Cheatingdeath it all depends on the driver. But if you have to equally good drivers in each car aka Rudra Sir and v1p3r then the Optra is faster there is no doubt about that and even more stabler.. but then the Baleno is faster till 120kmph after that the Optra will be game.. enough to take it since it has the top whack.. optras heavines will lead to it being slow till 100 but then the Optras 115 ( i think so) horses get up..

Sadly no, while I'd love to come down to B'lore and Bombay (and with my car) to look at the much more interesting car scene and also to have a holiday , i have just started a job - so it looks like I'm stuck in delhi for a bit. Even had to cancel the plans to visit betelgeuse 7 :)

but yer right - the Baleno is one helluva car for sure



I don't know guys - maybe i got ahead initially because i was revving high and slipping the clutch with the handbrake - so I launched high - i don't know what he did - i'll ask him - but he was way behind me till 60-70 at least , then he started catching up - at around 100-110 he overtook me but was it because the optra is faster at those speeds or i was late in shifting (horribly late ) ? and was my lead because of the launch or that his car's slower initially ?

So is it that the baleno is faster upto 60 and even a 100 ? strange - i thought the optra 1.8 would be faster. The corolla definitely must be faster with it's light weight and higher power

(does that make the baleno the 2nd fastest car under 10L ?)
