yesterday i noticed the front right freewheeling hub of my jeep is missing.
On saturday, i drove out of town for almost a 300Kms. Before going out, i have done the routine check of everything but the hubs. i knew they were unlocked and thats all. Never bothered to check them.
Now, the whole doubt is whether if it has been stolen or did it come out loose and fell off somewhere. Since i have alloys on my jeep, the hub cannot be removed unless someone removes a small plate with an allen key.
My jeep is parked on the road side in front of my house with the stolen hub side facing the road.
One theory is that it might have been stolen.
but, If it is stolen, why would some one remove the plate, remove the hub and put the plate back on. Wherecan they get the time to put it back on. When i checked, the plate is really tight and snug.

Now the other theory could be, the nuts would have come out with the wheel rotation and loosened itself and fell off. But thats highly impossible in my view.
Still not able to understand how it happened.
Just be safe.
Regards,
Krishna.
Have a look at the hex bolt, do they show sign of recent opening
Why would somebody steal just one hub and not the other is my doubt? The bolts can get loosened due to vibrations, especially if they are not torqued properly. I think the bolts came loose and it fell off.
the free wheeling hubs cannot fall off , there is a circlip on the inside which holds the hub in addition to the bolts.
also guys please take a closer look at the pic , the hub is very much there , only the outer cover of the hub has been removed or fallen off .
As Vikram asked, but why only one?
This is unless the thief was very particular about what he want and how many he wants - even going to the extend of putting back remaining things as they were before scooting off.
I might have just fallen off, Kittu. Do check the others also, physically, not just visually.
if it were one or two nut then i would have thought that it has fallen of but 6 its highly impossible
i can think of only one reason that the thief was dumb and thought the free wheel hub was actually the main hub holding the rim he tried to open it but after opening 6 nut the rim diddn't come out so he gave up

No Siddu, the complete hub has fallen off. not just the outer cover. and i guess it is not stolen. it has just came off. i agree with the circlip. but you can install it without circlip. it happens if it is installed by yourself or some mechanic. the importance of the circlip is only known to lambda guys and you will have it only if you get it installed by lambda guys. i have on my CJ without circlip and with circlip on my MM.
The circlip is mainly used for this purpose only. Lambda guy Arun also told me the same when i got it installed on my MM. He said there are chances that the hub may fall off on the move.

I have seen instances where all 8 bolts of an engine fly wheel have come loose. So any thing is possible.
are you sure star aqua ?

Sure siddu. look there, if its the outer cover then you dont see the protruded axle. the axle would be inside the hub.

yes you are right, but look at the depth. the splined axle shaft must be inside incase if we open just the cover, but for me it appears to be outside. dont know how it is appearing to others.
check the following pics.

Now match the profile of the hub without cover and the profile without hub.
Krishna is having lambda hubs and checkout how the lambda hubs are different from AISIN.
the mounting bolts of the hubs cannot be accessed with out removing the plate on the alloy wheel , the bolts which hold the cover have been removed or fallen off.
