"SURAKSHA" - Awareness on Road Safety

Dear Friends,

I am working on a project called "SURAKSHA". This is going to be an awareness program on Road safety. Under this program we are going to target Cab Drivers, Auto Drivers, Motorcycle riders, etc. separately. I am planning to work on this project jointly with Traffic Warden's organisation and Bangalore Traffic Police.

Since I am part of Marshaling team for K1000 for couple of years I see lot of young spectators come to watch rally. As soon as the rally gets completed we find these spectators so charged that they tend to drive their Cars and Motorcycles at a very high speed and very rashly in the public roads without any safety measures. By this, so many lives are under stake.
I am planning to make some flyers with safety instructions, messages from Top Rally drivers, contact details of Karnataka motor sports club and of course the sponsor's advertisement. The message is such that the public roads are not for showing your speed, skills and talents. If you really want to show get on to tracks and get in to rallying.

Now I invite the entire motorsport community to be a part of this project so that we can have safe motor able roads. Please send in your suggestions / comments on this project. Please tell me how we can implement this so that it can reach masses. Help me in sponsoring the project.

Regards,

K.Nagaraj

Great initiative, Nagaraj. Please do include the educated middle class 4 wheelers also in your target.

Nagaraj,

Wonderful Initiative. IMHO, there shouldn't be any classification. You should include every one on the road.

Hi friends,

I have made a flyer - Awareness of Road Safety, with the messages from Rally Drivers. I had this released during the Inauguration Ceremony of K1000 rally by the minister. We also distributed the same during the Inauguration ceremony and during the S.S.S to all the spectators and the general public.

The response was really awesome and many really appreciated us for taking up such an initiative.

I have about 1500Nos of flyers left with me. If anyone wants it to be distributed among the people, you can contact me and I can send across the same.

Please help me to reach this awareness to the masses.

Regards,

K.Nagaraj

Nagaraj,

Great to hear that.

Could you upload a scan of the flyer here if possible?

Hi Nagaraj!

How's the awareness program coming along?

I was wondering if you've built up a program targetting the cab drivers. Ever since i have started taking the company bus, i have lost count of the number of times my company cab has put lives at risk. Numerous complaints to HR have yielded no effects.

So, it would be great if you have a program that i can persuade the company transport to conduct.

Rehaan, That is a wonderful compilation of threads. I would suggest to create an ARTICLE on SAFE DRIVING out of the messages in the thread.

Why just the educated middle class? Why not the other classes?

Motor cycle accident and related death have become common in my state (Goa). Today in news there is tragic report of death by accident with truck in opposite direction of a man just to be married in 4 days . It is not education alone that can solve this problem. I work in Dubai and in such cases, the driver has to pay blood money in range of 200~300 thousand dihrams (equivalent to Rs. 30 Lakhs) in addition to jail term. There has to be severe penalty for such cases. Drinking and driving is still so common. We need a mechanism to make them more responsible for the driving.
Could you please share your awareness plan and then we (fellow bhpians in Goa) think how to take forward in our place.
