I really envy the few folks here who have NEVER ever been challan'ed, during whatever number of years/kilometres they've been driving!

And the one gentleman who has been downright honest to state that he contributes to FITPLOT (Fund for Improvement of the Traffic Policeman's Lot) more than thrice a year - our hats off to that kind of honesty, but we'd like to know out of sheer curiosity, why the cops are so biased against your driving style!

1995:
Friends bike, we were in the Eleventh Standard.
Triple riding, failure to stop, disobedience to a police officer, no license, no RC, no insurance, of course smartass answers did not help either.

1997:
My insurance papers did not have the regn number for my less than a year old bike.
Cop tricked me into paying him Rs 50.

1999 or 2000: (don't remember correctly)
Signal violation as per cop.
I had to break hard as a bus violated the Signal on its side.
When the cop saw me I am in the middle of the road and the signal was red.
Paid Rs 50 and kept shouting at the cop.

2001: No parking violation. Car got towed about 10 feet and I paid some money to the leechers. They were contractors and not cops. Car was parked for less than 5 mins.

2003:
First week of owning a bike in Hyderabad. Took a right turn at a signal.
In my defense there was no signboard or anything to warn about the same.
Challaned for Rs 50. Got receipt as well. Shouted at the cop about the signboards not being there.

272 views and 28 votes till now. Can't we be so honest as to own up to our challans? Getting challan'ed, for whatever reason, right or wrong, is not a cause to hang one's head in shame.

Let's get more members taking the poll please!

Been driving since 1975.

1990 - Challaned for parking in No Parking zone (Kasturba Rd, Bangalore). Went to Infantry Road Police Station for paying fine, there was no one to take payment for 4 hours - came back

1994 - Fined DM40 for overspeeding @74kmph on A81 near Stuttgart (Baustelle zone is 70kmph usually, this one was 60kmph, and not one person in hundreds of cars driving south to Switzerland early on a Saturday morning noticed that! Traffic Control would have minted money at that Baustelle). Paid ASAP

2005 - Challaned 100/- near SKB Sweets on DVG Road, BLR for parking on a side street. SI on bike says go to Basavanagudi Police Station and pay - made him take the money and give a receipt. And then he says if you want you can park the whole day - just show the receipt

2008 - Challaned 100/- for parking on the sidewalk (no one walks on that stretch near the Honda 2-wheeler showroom) on Dr.Rajkumar Rd, BLR. Challan was a sticker stuck on windshield - cops are not allowed to tow away cars in BLR now, after someone took them to court for damaging his car. Promptly paid at a Bangalore One center

Cops in north catch you for cutting lanes? driving in wrong lane? Are lanes vehicle specific there?

Never fined/paid for driving offence in India!
Once in US, I was stopped by cops and asked me to rectify the rear signal light and show them within a time frame. No fine involved!

How long have you been driving in India? How do the cops in US judge when they met you last to get something rectified , do they issue a ticket with the date and time?

Also do you get fined if you don't get it done what they asked you to do?

In 11 years of driving (got DL in 1998) I have been fined thrice. Once in Mumbai for lane cutting and twice in Pune for parking at no parking (obscure signs). On all occasions I was driving a motorcycle and was new to the respective cities. Never bribed cop... paid against challans only.

Last time i checked online i had 2 pending challans.
Plus we get challans through mail once or twice a year.
Sometimes it my fault ,sometimes our driver is the culprit.

Have made `Yahin settle kar lo` payments many times though.!

Traffic police prompty put a jammer on my car a couple of months back when I parked it on the road outside my sister's house (usually it was a parking zone but they had recently changed it to no-parking which I did not "see" )

Other than that have not been challan'd in my car, although I drive it mostly on week-ends and maybe once or twice a week. (Total 25k) Add to that some 10-15k driving done on my sister's M800 and Swift with no challans either.

On my bike(s)?
Have had a couple of incidences of bike being lifted from no-parking zones (in Pune the bloody white lines are really hard to spot sometimes!) and not carrying PUC/papers. But number of those is quite less, considering I have been riding a bike for 13+ years.
