Has the state government implemented E-toll payments?

No, ECR toll gates are still using cash. Fastag has not been implemented yet (Neither has the hardware been installed as of today).

I'm not sure about OMR (but it is probably the same case)

I was told that these are state run toll plazas hence won't accept fastag. This was as of yesterday.

It costs Rs 100 to buy, you can order it on Amazon,3 days for delivery, 5 mins to activate.

Why not just invest in one?

The bridge on Usman road has been scraped a few days ago and left as is. The height difference between the scraped road and the expansion joints are almost 3-4 cms which leads to an extremely rough ride. I wonder why they haven't completed the laying of the asphalt soon after the scraping was completed? If it were because of the holidays, then why start it when it would be known that there would be issues with manpower?

That's interesting. There was news of ECR and OMR toll gates to start accepting Fastag earlier this year, even though they're run by TNRDC.

It was shared on this thread too!

All we can do is wait patiently for it to unfold; seems like these folks love taking their own sweet time to implement things.

I have already bought one directly from PayTm customer care centre. Planning to use it during this weekend Pondy trip for the first time.

The toll plaza at Uthandi put this up today.

I used my PayTm Fastag for the first time on 28th December during a drive to Pondicherry. It worked flawlessly. Rs 60, 55, and 45 were deducted at the Paranur, Athur and Pondicherry Toll plazas. And while returning in the evening deductions were Rs 20, 30, and 30 in the same toll plazas, in reverse order. The Garware Ice cool film on the windshield made no difference. Transfer of funds from main wallet to FasTag wallet was seamless. Rs 240 is gone from the main wallet, while the FasTag wallet shows the starting balance of Rs 150. The sms messages for deductions appeared within half an hour of crossing each toll plaza. A very smooth experience.

As part of the Metro rail project, there were soil tests carried out on the Mount Poonamallee road (St. Thomas mount area). After the drilling was completed, the drill hole was covered with cement. However, they did not keep the filling till the level of the road. As is normal practice with drain manhole covers, they filled it higher than the level of the road. Consequently, each one of them is at least 1 or 2 cm above the level of the road and in some cases almost an inch above. These are extremely harsh on the tyres. At the least, these protrusions could be shaved off.

Here are pictures of some of them.

People who used to take the Moopanar Flyover and take a U turn earlier has to take right under the flyover. U turn is prohibited now.

Most pathetic decision by the CCTP. This signal is again blocked. So, there is no right turn on to the Annasalai. Take U turn at the nandanam/chamiers road signal to hop on to the Annasalai towards LIC.

What is more pathetic is the Signal is always on Red and the road users stop there hoping it will turn Green stopping the people behind wanting to take a U turn on to the Cenotaph road. :Frustrati

Further updates on this topic

Quote:

In two months, toll plazas along East Coast Road (ECR) and Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR) in Chennai and its outskirts will get radio frequency identification (RIFD) based FASTag lanes.
Quote:

“It will take nearly two months to equip the plazas with FASTag readers. Simultaneously, we will update the existing system with ETC software. It will facilitate the local resident pass (LRP) holders to use FASTag lanes. If they have already fixed FASTag, it will be integrated with their LRP,” said an official in TNRDC.

Something for you Chennai folks - If this news is to be believed, "Chennai is the noisiest among the six metro cities!"

Quote:

Across the city’s 10 stations, the average noise levels during the day was 67.8 decibels (dB), much higher than the equivalent figure for Delhi (61).

The area around ASHP Hospital in Mumbai is the quietest among the metros (54 dB) but still noisier than the limit (50 dB).

The area around Paradise junction in Hyderabad, a major commercial hub and a traffic chokepoint, is India’s loudest (79 dB).

Quite hard to believe! Why the hell did Mumbai police then install those decibel-meter controlled signals?

The only reason I believe this might actually be true is because Chennai has lower number of trees compared to other cities. Those leaves and branches help in absorbing some noise.

This police needs to be appreciated. https://www.facebook.com/10000642273...365613664/?d=n
