Cattle, People and Mayhem

My Colleague and Friend was on his way back from Madurai to his home at Kalpakkam today.

He is an avid reader of team bhp and I have always appreciated his driving manners.

As he was nearing villupuram on the NH45, he moved to the right lane to pass a truck. He was doing near 90 kmph.

As he was passing the truck, he noticed a Hyundai Sonata tailing him closely and flashing obviously wanting to pass.

My friend after passing the Truck, tried to move to the left lane. The sonata had got even more close on the tail. Now out of nowhere, some one chased a cow away from the sides and it came running onto the road.

He was now doing around 80 kph and he stood up on the brakes trying to avoid the cow. Now, in this process he did not complete the lane change as he wanted to avoid the cow.

The Sonata who was even closer now and even expected a lane change couldn't slow down and banged him from the rear.

Now my friend who was slowing down gained momentum again because of the rear ending by the Sonata and headed straight for the cow and hit it. The cow flew and landed ahead in the impact.

He and his front passenger was buckled up and nothing happened. The rear passengers were not but nothing happened to them except for a rude shock.

They pulled over. He told me that the Sonata guy refused to accept his fault and told him that he hit him only because my friend did not complete the lane change. My friend told him that you were dangerously tail gating and also the pointed to the cow but the guy refused and left the place.

My friend who was already shocked and had his whole family with him let him go. He also saw that the cow got up and ran away. He too left the place as a crowd was trying to gather.

Now, he has the car at his home. I advised him the following.

- Make an incident report to the Insurance company (Maruti Suzuki Insurance)

- Take it to the authorized workshop nearby and get all the repairs done through insurance.

He told me that the car was completely drive able and there weren't any suspension and chassis damages.

Anything else that he should do and any other formalities?
