Sad to see such an amazing car abandoned. Looks like the car was vandalised - all glasses (including the sunroof) have been broken.

I have seen more W220s being junked than any other modern Merc.

Are those still in police custody? If yes, then where please?

Sad to see so many cars in this state. I wonder why they are not being scrapped for metal. In a country where the cast iron storm drain cover gets stolen only to be sold by the kilo in the black market, am surprised there aren't folks who do the same with the car. Its high time the government get serious in making laws on scrapping cars.

Here are some cars that I've found in Bangalore.

Volvo 740GL. This car has now left this spot and I think is now waiting to be restored.



A Honda Accord that has been neglected to an extreme degree.


Toyota Crown Royal Saloon found in the most random field.




Chevy Corsica. This one is so uncared for that at the back it looks like someone left a bucket of paint on the trunk and then knocked it over. Then again, it was never a good car to begin with so maybe it's okay?lol:

And finally, what really saddens me is this Merc W126 300SEL, which is in a horrible state; it looks like someone slashed the tyres and also threw rocks through the windows, considering some rocks and glass have made their way into the interior.

These cars have lots of demand & good resale. Unless it's temporarily waiting for something (parts, owner's bank balance, owner travelling, 15-year registration renewal) or is in trouble (shady paperwork, police case), I can't think of any reason for the car to be ignored. The owner could easily sell it for a nice sum.

Very true about the demand for these cars but most of these cars are left to rot because the owners demand obnoxious prices!
6 Years back I found a W124 S500 Mint on the outside with a bust suspension and I offered the owner a very fair deal and was pursuing him for the car for more than a year but he refused to budge and the car was left to rot outside his House for a long time until someone picked it for a price that was way lower than my offer and then ultimately it ended up in a despair state.

Ultimately I ended up picking up a Bimmer.

An abandoned W202 C Class from Delhi.

One of the workshops that I visited has a Mercedes W220 gathering dust due (you guessed it), air suspension and some other items. It is not that the car is irreparable, the owners wanted everything done even though they were advised about the expense and what would be the basic minimum that it would be required. The owners wanted the Full Monty but suddenly will not fork out what is required or pay for what has been done. The garage owner has not released the car and it sits like a white elephant. Luckily, he has the space else that car would be rotting on the road!

While on the subject of W220 Mercs abandoned - came across this video. It just serves to highlight just how expensive it will be to set right these cars.

I saw this - 8310 pounds to repair a 990 pound car. Some stuff could be done at home if you are a mechanic but the rust on that car was terrible for a Mercedes

I remember reading somewhere that the W220 was the least reliable modern Mercedes - could it be because this was the first Mercedes to be very high on technology (probably a guinea pig for future models)?

It was a time when management focussed on numbers and not the fact that well engineered cars make the numbers. Combine that with the distraction of the Chrysler merger, it was a disaster. Mercedes added a lot of innovation but the durability validation was half baked. The W203(phase 1), W211 (phase 1), W22o and the first ML Class were the victims of this.
