Re: BMW M2 Competition & M5 Competition India-bound

Autocar India reports more details on the car launching soon. Juiciest tidbit : 6 speed MT only

https://www.autocarindia.com/car-new...gs-open-409972

Autocar hasn't been wrong about such scoops recently and i hope they are correct about this one. Real lack of manual transmission cars in the performance segment now.

That's good and bad. Good for the enthusiasts who will absolutely love that it comes in manual as I think it'll be the only performance car with a manual in India at the moment - correct me if I'm wrong?

But putting myself in BMW's shoes, I'm not too sure about it. There's a reason automatics sell more especially in cities like Mumbai is because its just easier to use and live with on our traffic riddled roads.

Re: BMW M2 Competition & M5 Competition India-bound

As an enthusiast on a forum or on track, yes manual would be more fun. But being the same enthusiast, if I am going to be spending 1cr and would want to use this as a daily driver, automatic would make so much more sense. After all, i'd be stuck in traffic more often than be on the track.

Slightly OT: i off-road sometimes and thought I'd do a lot of himalaya trips, hence faced a similar dilemma when having to choose between a 4x4 MT vs 4x2 AT Fortuner. Whenever I am stuck in Delhi Gurgaon jams, not uncommon, I am so happy that I chose the AT.

The article now says the exact opposite - no manual. It's going to be DCT only. Attaching an excerpt below:

However, there's some sad news for enthusiasts. India will not get the manual as speculated but the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT).
(EDIT: Just learnt that the Autocar article was updated. I've edited my earlier post to reflect that. My apologies.)

BMW M2 competition launched in India at Rs 79.9 lakhs

The BMW M2 Competition has finally landed on our shores with a surprising price tag of Rs 79.9 lakhs. The M2 Competition was revealed in April this year as a replacement to the M2 Coupe with a revised aerodynamics and slight cosmetic updates.

The new M2 Competition replaces its N55B30 engine with a new power plant based on the power unit from the BMW M3/M4. The 3.0-litre straight-six turbocharged unit now produces 404bhp and 550Nm (almost 40bhp and 85Nm more than the previous model). It can be had with a dual-clutch automatic transmission, but internationally it does get a manual option. The two-door is capable of hitting a 0-100kmph time of 4.2 seconds and a top speed of 250kmph.

Amazing price. Really lovely to see Halo products being priced in a range where people actually consider them.

Re: BMW M2 Competition & M5 Competition India-bound

I think its a good honest price. With CBUs, car companies hardly make money here. I guess very limited cars will be available initially. Why don't they see regular 2 series in India yet? A 230i 2 series with 250 bhp in M sport trim (suspension included ) sounds yummy. They can assembly it here too and retail it for about 40L.

Once you add the options it will be over 90 Lac, a Porsche Cayman will be more fun and will look very different. Haven't driven the M2 so cannot comment. With BMW, it will be a little easier on maintenance though.

2 series in M Sports trim - sounds yummy but given the low numbers it will do, very difficult to make a case for local assembly.

Re: BMW M2 Competition & M5 Competition India-bound

Car looks sweet, but frankly size might be against it! At this price people expect either a low slung 2 seater or Mustang kind of large sedan. This will be strictly for people who wish to daily drive their beast!

This could even be a very good sleeper car for people who are tired of attention. No one will doubt a thing in a normal shade
