After production of the current BMW M4 Coupé and Cabrio was recently discontinued as planned, the BMW M2 Competition, the last user of the twin-turbo in-line six-cylinder S55, is retiring. Adapting the engine, which was introduced in 2014, to the requirements of even stricter emission standards in Europe for a few months remaining, simply no longer makes economic sense. Only customers outside Europe - and thus also on the M2 main market, the USA - can breathe a sigh of relief: The BMW M2 Competition will be available for a little longer for all markets outside the EU. But here, too, the end is slowly but surely approaching, because the new BMW 2 Series Coupé G42 is already around the corner and, with its start of production in 2021, will ensure that all variants of the first 2 Series Coupé are finally eliminated. The good news: With the next 2 Series, the basis for a new BMW M2 will be laid, which from 2022 will make everyone smile at every corner. |
