Shops converting LHD Imported Cars to RHD

I've seen this for the first time on Mr Faisal Khan's channel. This seems to be a company who sources a car from the US and converts it to RHD by sourcing parts from the original vendors. Apparently the company also provides aftersales and warranty.

I am curious about how such an organisation works. Would love to hear insights. I did put up a casual inquiry for a Chevy Suburban but as expected they did not respond.

Do these guys need any license to do so? I mean, the Americans are no fools and would be in no mood to lose business. I also found their prices to be atrocious. They are charging 2.75 cr for a Camaro, according to their website.

Here's the company that does the actual conversions. AFAIK, Friday Night cars just source it.

Obviously no personal experience, but have heard about AutoGroup International being one of the bigger players on this scene.

The prices are mostly reflective of 'what is the alternative'. And such imports are more of a want than need, the buyers will be ready to pay for the convenience.

The Americans aren't losing business. The car has to be purchased from them somehow at full price. That they are losing out on the market by not having a presence, ofcourse they are FOOLS.

Following them on Instagram and I figured they are based in Sri Lanka. What happened to the old import rule where it is mentioned that cars that are imported new should be from the country of origin. Or have they worked some other loophole?

Re: Shops converting LHD Imported Cars to RHD

Autogroup is an Australian company that has its workshop in Sri Lanka. They have been doing conversions and selling in ANZ for a long time. Over the years they have expanded to the ASEAN countries. India is probably the most complex market to sell into with laws changing constantly.

GM also manufactures a few models as LHD and sends to Australia, where they're converted into RHD. My previous post on this in a different thread. https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/india...ml#post5683522 (Car companies you think should make a comeback in India)
