Chennai has got quite a few rang rover consulate vehicles. It has also got a dodge durango suv.Really love that.

Saw a huge Ford SUV in Mumbai about 2 days ago.
I just couldn't take off my eyes from the huge chrome grill.
Don't have the pics so can't confirm which model it was. I think it was the Explorer 2007 model (going by the grill design).

Could be an explorer or the expedition, both are huge vehicles running V8 petrol.

It is a Ford explorer maroon sort of colour and stands at Marine Drive.

I think this thread is asking for trouble. Blatantly displaying the CC/ CD numbers in some of the photographs is not the right way to go. Specially in this environment when all the embassies are fortifying themselves with extra security, one thread displaying lot of embassy cars would'nt be the right way to do it.

Although I will admit that I too enjoyed watching all these exotics, but I feel we should go about more discreetly handling this.

Note: This is my opinion only and mods and other members have the full right to ignore it.

Thanks & Regards

Definitely agree with you.The mods should make sure the registration plates have been blanked out properly.

these vehicles also enjoy diplomatic immunity i.e. they cannot be tried under indian law

So what happens if they're involved in a hit-and-run case?

While you are right Diplomatic immunity does exist, it however only covers the Diplomat and their families.

The cars are subject to the road laws of any country ie: Even if you're an Ambassador, High Commissioner or a Consul General you can't park in a no parking zone etc.

However most of these vehicles are driven by chauffeurs, so in case of an accident it is them who are tried.

A diplomat is not immune to any law, they simply cannot be tried in the country of assignment, they will have to face the trial in their homeland.
However as you can imagine the idea of Diplomatic immunity is hugely misunderstood, so diplomats and their families (including myself) take advantage of the situation and our IDs become "Do anything you want" passes.

In Delhi places to sight diplomatic vehicles will be Chanakyapuri (Where all the Embassys are), Shanti Niketan, Anand Niketan, Vasant Vihar, Malcha Marg, Golf Links and a few others. Some people like to stay in Gurgaon for example.

One of the best places to find nice imports is Priya Vasant Lok.

CD as seen in the blue license plates stands for Corps Diplomatique.
And CC as seen in the yellow plates stands for Corps Consulaire.

You will only see CD plates on diplomatic vehicles in the capitol as the main Embassy/High Commission is always located in the capitol.

Other cities will have a Consulate which is essentially a branch of the main Embassy/High Commission.

The numbers in front of CD/CC is the country identification. The numbers after the CD/CC can give you an idea of the seniority of the deputy.
For example if the plate reads XXCD1 then that is the Ambassador's car, XXCC1 is the car of the consul general.

Again I request that all the plates be erased so as to preserve the privacy of the owners.

Cheers

Delhi has always been a good for embassy vehicle spottings. This time it was a bullet proofed E-class & Nissan Urvan.

Is that a Nissan ? as it sports a Toyota Emblem.

Now here's a very unlikely consulate vehicle: A Harley-Davidson Softail! Spotted it on Marina Beach. It was running CC plates! It looked so cool! As always, it turned a lot of heads and attracted a massive crowd of young guys, who were tailing it all the way. I've also posted it on the Chennai Exotics thread.

It's the personal vehicle of an employee. There is an American school in Chennai run by the consulate, should be the perfect place for spotting most of the consulate vehicles in Chennai.

Few Embassy vehicles spotted at Delhi during my last visit for Auto Expo 2010.

Mercedes Viano spotted in front of Deutch Bank, CP.

Mercedes E-cass seems to special protection varient, seen it new Rastra Pathi Bhavan.

2002 Chrysler 300M frequently spotted in Bandra belongs to an Embassy.

Saw this embassy car, a Toyota Gracia in the Mumbai airport last month.

That Garcia is actually a Camry Wagon isnt it the model from 1997-2001
