The car came to me for sorting out an intermittent problem of the alarm system triggering spontaneously, which Volvo had no clue about. Problem solved, this was also my chance to take the giant out for a drive.

Supremely comfy this beast is! I've been in these on several occasions and the front seats are really fantastic! From the looks of it this is the V8 version, a very refined and compact yet powerful Yamaha engine. Quite a practical and sensible SUV with decent 'oomph' from the engine! :D

The car I drove comes with a transversely mounted 4.4-litre V8 petrol engine pushing out 311 bhp @5850 rpm (umm... that's about 2.6x what my Scorpio puts out) and 325 lb-ft (@440 N-m) of torque @3900 rpm (@1.5x what my car delivers).




This is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission that provides drive to all the wheels, backed up by all the electronic wizardry one can think of - ABS, EBD, traction control (DSTC in Volvo-ese).


All of this rides on 12-spoke 17" alloys shod with 235/65 R17 Michelins (oh good, at least those aren't wider than the Scorp's tyres :D ).

Now, the XC90 is a seriously big car. Up close, it feels B-I-G.






Open the rear hatch, take the tailgate down, fold away the third row of seats (which makes for a neat and flat boot space), and you could park a Nano in there.




Shoulder room? Legspace? Knee space? It's more like outer space.

Volvo India site is very revealing. I actually can feel about the explaination of your experience with this V8.
Any ideas as to when are they getting the XC60? I believe they have more engine options compared to XC90.

I see there're 2 controls for A/C on volvo33.jpg. What are those for Doc?


And yes, seriously, its a BIG car & the doors are large & one can get in easily without squeezing themselves. I like to see more pics on the dash & control. Appreciate if you can share them. Tks.

This seems a slightly older model. The newer Volvo's have that trademark curvature along the sides that they have been able to pull off almost miraculously.

OT, how I wish the Swedes had been able to hold on to the brand.

I believe its for climate control in the front and the back. The car does come with two-zone climate control.

No idea, Susan. Volvos were never on my radar till this one came along. Will try to find out.
Those are the separate temperature settings on climate control for the left and right front seats. The front seats are heated too.

XC 90 is my dream SUV.
I can see that the seat is more 'car like' and not upright.
How is the third row seat?

Whaat??? Two temp settings exclusively for the driver & co driver seat? Why alone left out the passengers in the rear? If it were for the rears, its little understandable; but I don't really see much of any value for it? Could you help me understand pls?
