It was apparently done to reduce taxes on the car, since it was an import.
Its pocket change for someone who can afford an S in India.

IIRC Merc offer a leather delete option for animal lovers who do not wish to sit on a dead animal inside their car.

That's what the dealer had told me. It came without the leather seats, so that the sticker price is lower. He also said that many M classes (previous gen) were often poorly equipped in comparison to the ones sold abroad, cause of the same reason.

I suspect he is. Hes even counting the hits on the page. Part of his KPI?

Great job Manish. Keep up the good work.

This noon I saw a Black Range Rover with a Member of Parliament brass plates. Why do I mention this. It was being followed by a vehicle with men in govt issue safari suits.

"So?" you ask?

The Safari boys were following the RR in a Black Volvo XC90

Sorry did not want to attempt to take pics at these little vehicles. Wasn't in a mood for a cavity search.

@ Ironwolf ,
The RR and XC90 that you saw belongs to a person from Koramangala

that indeed is quite a rare beetle. There is a body work guy near TV Tower who had made a stretch version of the old beetle. I had seen it when the body work was going on close to 3 yrs ago. Never saw it after that.
