A Vyrus in India!

Oh My God, when it comes to bikes, it doesn't get a darn lot more exotic than this. Someone seems to have actually bought a Vyrus in India

One of only a 120 which exists in the planet. Tom Cruise owns one.

This is haute couture of the bike world. Each bike is tailor-made to the owner's measurements.

Apparently it retails at 45+ lakhs since the whole thing is made of carbon fibre. Read it off the source page.

Simply Crazy monster! Does this not cost up above 1.5cr? I guess for such a unique piece with complete customization options, its cheap when it costs 45 plus lakhs.

Re: A Vyrus in India!

That sure is an expensive bike. I think this is owned by a biker in Delhi (guess he belongs to GODS) as I had seen the pic about 6 months back. Anyways we also have another rare bike the Hellcat with apna Doni sahab.

I am now waiting to see if somebody will import the MTT Turbine Jetbike

You do have a point, with Ducatis now costing close to 50lakhs in the Indian market, I too'd expect the Vyrus to kiss the 1cr mark.

Re: A Vyrus in India!

The Vyrus is a copy of the Bimota Tesi, their experimental bike with hub-centric steering. I have always been a lover of this bike, but it was not successful in the market place because the hub-centric steering came with bigger costs than its benefits were able to offset.

Its big advantage was the lack of brake dive, and due to the separation of steering and suspension, the wonderful characteristic of isolating the steering from mid corner bumps. The negatives were the weight and complexity of the system, and the slightested and unavoidable play in the various joints in the system that prevented clear contact patch feedback from reaching the handlebars.

It was a curiosity but in the end could not compete with the very highly evolved conventional fork equipped bikes.

After Bimota gave up on it, Vyrus picked up the design an sold it as a bit of two wheeled jewelry. Vyrus claims that it was working alongside Bimota during the development of the Tesi, but I used to hunt down all the material ever published in the british and US bike mags on the tesi and never read about Vyrus then. it is possible that the people who run Vyrus were engineers at Bimota during the development of the Tesi, but the credit is definitely Bimota's, not Vyrus'

Thanks for the link, Haroon. It cleared quite some confusion.
  • Price - 25 Lakhs (Surprisingly low for such an exotic).
  • Uses a 1198cc Ducati engine.
  • Churns out 160hp stock and an astonishing 211hp with optional Volumex Supercharger!
  • This one is very much a sold in India bike!

Some more pics from xBhp.

Was this not the display bike on carnet showcased by The ESTD., the Importers of this and other exotic machinery?

Is it confirmed that it was sold to someone in India?

Cheers

Ride Safe

All the points I stated up there are picked from the link provided.

That doesn't say anything about it being a Demo bike, it says, xBhp could not ride it cos it was already sold to someone.

Re: A Vyrus in India!

Its really looks like a Transformers bike. & the price is amazingly low. A Ducati engine of 1198CC with optional volumex is something around 25lks is unbelievable.

Re: A Vyrus in India!

Just to be clear, when I say the Vyrus is a copy of the Bimota Tesi, I don't mean that Vyrus made a bit perfect copy of the Tesi 2D.

The first Tesi (also refered to as the Tesi 1D) is the original design. This bike was sold as a fully faired motorcycle so not much effort was put into the visual impact of the underlying structural and mechanical elements. The Tesi 1D was prettified and the resulting bike sold as both the Vyrus and the Tesi 2D.

I have attached a picture of the Tesi 1D stripped of most of its bodywork to show the underlying design and engineering that was cleaned up visually to create the Tesi 2D and the Vyrus. The central 2 elements of the Vyrus and the Tesi 2D, which is the inverted C shaped frame and the hub centered steering and front swing arm are seen to be borrowed from the Tesi 1D, with the C Frame getting cut outs for visual impact and lightness.

Interestingly, in the background of that picture is the Yamaha GTS1000, that japanese company's effort at the same concept. A look at the design detail of the Yamaha will show just how much the Vyrus is an evolution of a Bimota design that had virtually all of the distinctive elements already in place.

Re: A Vyrus in India!

The Italian company that builds the Vyrus rose out of the ashes of Bimota and is mostly ex-Bimota people and the front suspension is same architecture as the Tesi.
