KTM has created a dedicated website of the 1290 Super Duke R according to which the bike will be unveiled on September 29 and will most likely be launched at the 2013 EICMA show in Milan starting November 5.

No details are available on the mechanical front but it is been speculated that the bike would be powered by the RC8-sourced V-twin which has been bored to 1195cc and would pump out close to 190-200PS of power.

It is doubtful whether KTM would bring the 1290 Super Duke R to our shores but if they would, be ready to shell out a hefty premium, since the bike would be brought in via the CBU (completely built unit) route.

Hitting the nail bang on the power speculations, the KTM 1290 SuperDuke with its 1301cc 75 degree V-twin engine cranks out peak power figures of 180 bhp @ 8870 rpm and max torque of 144 nm with a full 100nm available as low as 2500 rpm (WOW). Talking of performance the edgy Kiska designed streetfighter hits the 0-200 kph mark in a measly 7.2 seconds.

This is an AWESOME bike! I think it is positioned against Diavel (and less against the Hayabusa and the monstrous ZX14R)

It is lighter, more powerful and has higher torque than the Diavel

180 vs 162 BHP
189 vs 210 Kgs (There is a 205 kg reduced weight version IIRC)
144 vs 127 Nm Torque

After riding the 390, most of the numbers on paper are actually that - Numbers on paper.

After riding 390, I realize that KTM's lightness, power delivery, cornering etc are way different than many other bikes I have ridden. (Haven't ridden the Ducatis though - But I came so close to buying a 796)

I hope they bring it to India soon, so that the enthusiasts can atleast have a glimpse, and probably work harder to save money to buy one!

The autocarindia link for this awesome machine. Am amazed with the fact that its 1301 cc engine develops a 180 bhp output !

KTM seems to be keen on bringing in their niche bikes in India. After bringing in couple of 1290 Super Adventure last month, a 1290 Super Duke R has also been imported for type approval.

How can one compare this to a Diavel (power cruiser), Busa or a ZX14r, they are not naked bikes and don't come in the same category. The right comparrion would be against the BMW s1000r, Z1000, Ducati Monster (if they have a 1000 cc in that), CB1000 and the Soon to launch the GSX S 1000. These are the Bikes the KTM would be positioned against.
