2016 Yamaha YZF-R1'S': The cheaper R1

So Yamaha launched a slightly cheaper version of their all-new flagship liter bike in the U.S. How much cheaper? $2,000 to be precise.
What's been cut back? Well, the S model gets steel conrods and exhaust headers instead of titanium ones, uses aluminium for the wheels, engine covers and sump instead of magnesium, and as a result weighs 4kg more than the normal R1. It also does without a quick-shifter but retains the high-spec traction control with its inertial measurement unit (IMU). You don't even get an 'S' sticker to show that you've gone for the cheaper option.
The engine changes are said to limit the bike's revs a fraction, and although peak power isn't supposed to be seriously altered there's no official word on what that figure will be just yet.

So do you guys think Yamaha will/should bring this bike here to India?

Oh Man. That black looks like next generation hifi machine. Love the R1's but not sure 2K is differential enough to not get the R1 itself.

Compared to the bikes sold in india after tax, i gotto say this R1 is affordable if you are not in India

The dark grey looks the best in the lot. If launched in India, this might go on to be the most selling colour, I believe.

I personally feel there was no need to launch a 'cheaper' variant of such a cult motorcycle. Let it be as it is, lads. It's like launching an "Aventador (Standard)" or something. If you want to reach out to the common masses more efficiently, why not do something with the R6? Launching the R6 in India would just make things a lot interesting (or autocratic? ) in the 600cc segment.

Anyway, I am actually relieved they didn't go with a single seat on the R1 'S'.
