2017 Suzuki GSX-R1000 & GSX-R1000R launched in India

Suzuki has launched the updated GSX-R1000 and GSX-R1000R in India. The former is priced at Rs. 19 lakh while the latter costs Rs. 22 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The updated models come with a new engine, added features and some cosmetic tweaks. Additionally, Suzuki claims that these are the lightest and fastest bikes ever introduced under the GSX-R name.

The 2017 GSX-R1000 and GSX-R1000R are equipped with a new 999.8 cc, inline four-cylinder engine that produces 199 BHP @ 13,200 rpm and 117.6 Nm of torque @ 10,800 rpm. This engine further comes with Suzuki's Racing Variable Valve Timing technology that has been derived from the company's MotoGP bikes.

The chassis of the bikes has also been revised. The bikes are equipped with Showa Big Piston forks and Brembo monoblock front caliper. They run on RS10 tyres from Bridgestone. Suzuki also claims to have made the bikes more aerodynamic.

Features on offer with the GSX-R1000 include 6-direction Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), 10-level motion track traction control, motion track braking system, ABS, LED headlamps & tail lights and LED instrumentation. The GSX-R1000R further adds launch control, bi-directional quick shifter, Showa Balance Free suspension, cornering ABS and LED position lamps to the feature list.

In India, the 2017 Suzuki GSX-R1000 is available in Triton Blue and Metallic Mat Black, while the GSX-R1000R can be opted in Metallic Triton Blue and Glass Sparkle Black.

Re: 2017 Suzuki GSX-R1000 & GSX-R1000R launched in India

Was eagerly looking forward to this launch, but the pricing seems to be on the higher side.

The 2017 Fireblade is priced at INR 17.61 Lakh while the high performance variant, the CBR1000RR Fireblade SP is priced at Rs 21.71 lakh. And as per reviews, the new Honda seems to be just as good as the mighty GSXR, if not better.

Even the BMW S1000R is priced competitively. And with Suzuki not willing to back up their products with decent showrooms or test rides for their premium bikes, things don't like all that promising.

The pricing is exactly what I was quoted by the 2 Suzuki dealerships in Bangalore some time back. Lack of test rides are a problem with all the Japanese biggies, even in a city like Bangalore. You will be lucky if they have a bike and let you sit on one, forget about getting a decent test ride.

One Suzuki showroom has a GSX S1000 for test rides but the bike seems to be perpetually out of town whenever I call up for a test ride. Surprisingly Suzuki doesnt have a Busa for test rides, its their best selling model and is their best priced bike as well. Strange are the ways of Suzuki.

Great bike but steep pricing! Let's face it, this bike though technologically very advanced, is not exotic like a Panigale or MV Augusta. Heck, my non-automotive enthusiast friend once mistook the older GSXR for a Gixxer SF (thanks to color and body shape).

ZX10R seems such VFM now! My favourite bike still remains the R1M though. Perfect balance.

For the 19 lakhs + tax one pays for the standard model, sadly its only the R model which carries the brilliant Showa Balance Free forks and Brembo M50 calipers, which even the standard ZX10 carries stock. The standard Gixxer runs traditional suspension and much less gadgetry in comparison. At 22 lakhs ex-shw, the R comes into the same hunting grounds as the ZX10RR. Yamaha meanwhile needs to wakeup and acknowledge that the standard R1 is now even more over-priced w.r.t the competition.
