Aprilia to launch Shiver 900 & Dorsoduro 900 in July '17

Aprilia to launch Shiver 900 and the Dorsoduro 900 in July'17

Quote:
The Shiver 900 is a naked motorcycle, while the Dorsoduro 900 is a dual-sport adventure bike.
The Shiver 900 and the Dorsoduro 900 are powered by 896cc, V-twin engines putting out 95.2hp at 8,750rpm and 90Nm at 6,500rpm. They will sit on 41mm Kayaba inverted forks up front and an adjustable monoshock round the back. Both bikes feature frames made of trellis-type steel tubes bolted onto aluminium side plates, along with a dismountable rear sub-frame. Braking will be provided by twin 320mm discs up front chomped on by four-piston Brembo calipers and a single 240mm disc round the back bitten by a single piston Brembo caliper. The six-spoke, 17-inch cast aluminium wheels are different from the 750s’ in terms of design and weight (they are lighter).

Expect the Shiver and the Dorsoduro to feature slightly higher ex-showroom prices of Rs 13-14 lakh.

Based on what was shared with me by an Aprilia sales person, the introductory pricing for the Shiver 900 is 11,99,000 and the Dorsoduro 900 will be at 12,50,000 (ex showroom Pune). This is valid till the 15th of June or till stocks last.

Honest question - who is the target buyer here? How many do they hope to sell?
Most bikers will go for the equivalent but much cheaper Kawasaki/Honda or Triumph. Aprilia does not have the premium image of BMW or Ducati - so who is going to buy these?

The ducati supersport and multi strada 950 will kill most of the competition!! These will be still born even at the introductory price is my feeling.

The current Multi 1200 is around 23 on road, with Enduro around 25 and Pikes Peak at 26. Even if the Multi 950 is priced at 4 Lakhs lesser at 19 on road, the Aprillia will be cheaper than the Multi..

AFAIK the Aprilia Dorsoduro is a competitor of the Ducati Hypermotard and Ducati Hyperstrada. The ideal competition of the Ducati Multistrada from the Aprilia stable is the Aprilia Caponord 1200.

I agree that a smaller capacity Multi 950 is on its way, but I don't think it will be positioned against the Dorsoduro as the Multi 950 will still be a size bigger. I am guessing that the Hypermotard and Hyperstrada will still be cheaper than the Multistrada 950.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Expected price is being said to be between 9-11.5lacs ex. delhi for the Multi-950 which is spot on (hopefully it is a reality) given how the Kawasaki has priced the Z900. My benchmark for all these bikes above 600 but under 1000cc is the Z900 for what Kawasaki offers in that price! The multi-950 can have some premium for its adventure creds and ducati's premium snob value.

Probably right, I was just responding to Nilesh post comparing this to the Multi.

The new HyperStrada is already in the showroom and available for 16 lakhs on road...
