Triumph has taken the covers off their latest Boneville derivative - the Scrambler 1200, which they claim to be a thoroughbred offroader in its latest avatar.

Highlight for both bikes is a 21-inch front tyre with a 17-inch rear, spoked wheels shod with dual purpose Metzeler Tourance tubeless tyres. Available in two variants, the XC and XE - XC gets 200mm of suspension travel (Showa forks, Ohlins twin shocks) while the XE uses Ohlins suspension with 250mm of suspension travel to boost their offroad credentials.

Powered by Triumph’s 1,200cc Bonneville twin seen earlier on the Thruxton, puts out 88.7 hp at 7,400 rpm and 110 Nm at 3,950 rpm. Five ride modes are standard - with a sixth, Off-Road Pro, on the XE model.

XE model is also equipped with an IMU unit, hence enabling both cornering ABS and traction control.

Braking duties are handled by Brembo twin 320mm floating discs with Monobloc M50 front calipers, along with Brembo 2-piston 255mm rear brake calipers.

Seat height is pretty initimidating, and rivals directly with the Ducati Desert Sled (840mm for the XC, whereas the XE gets 870mm). Good news however with the weight figures, which isn't as heavy as the big adventure tourers. (205kg for the XC and 207kg for XE)

I have to tell you I have stopped following online portals for new releases. I know you would have done that job already and would be ready with a new thread.

Coming to the bike, it looks interesting. Has the looks and that lovely Ohlins suspension setup should be very apt for the job. What is exciting is the amalgamation of technology on this thing. A couple of usual rider modes but now also a dedicated off road pro mode. Sounds like a recipe for off road fun. And oh, worlds first bike to have a dedicated GoPro control system.
I like what Triumph is doing with this.

Saw this here in Canada last week at a Motor Show and I was impressed. Bike looks purposeful. There will be tow variants XC and XE.

Isn't this the same motorcycle on which MC's Ari and Zack did a ride along with a Ducati Scrambler?

If I recall correctly on one instance the Triumphs exhaust fell off while riding trail.

No worries, go ahead with the swap and ship out the front forks, they look just ideal for the Interceptor here

This is an interesting launch indeed. If you are truly smitten by trail riding its a very compelling alternative to a Tiger. The reduced weight is immensely useful and the height is not dissimilar to the taller XCX specs. However, the Tiger is much more of an all rounder with its pipes placement being more practical.

If you don't want this as an every day ride with frequent pillions, hands down has the potential to be a lot more fun on trails. Otherwise the Tiger still more versatile.

As a parting note, both the Speed Twin and the 1200 XC Scrambler are very very interesting variants of the classic range and I can easily imagine enjoying one if I could have a multiple bike garage.

EDIT: Although that price sounds compelling, I believe its still not certain whether this will be a CBU. If CBU, Mah prices could tip beyond 13L I guess.

As per my understanding of CBU pricing, this would be the probable OTR (not based on dealer price-list):
Scrambler 1200 XC (assume default bike color which does not have cost mark-up)
Ex-showroom: 10,73,000
Road Tax in MH for CBU (20.42%): 2,19,106
Insurance offered by Triumph Dealer (1 year Zero Dep, 5 years 3rd Party): 55,000
TCS (1%): 10,730
Handling Charges: 20,000
Total: 13,77,836

They launched the Street Twin and Speed Twin at attractive ex-showroom prices, only to spoil the party for MH folks by launching them as CBUs.

I wouldn't be surprised if this launch went the same way.

In my humble opinion, Triumph needs to put some effort into working out a strategy to achieve reasonable OTR price for states which have high road tax for CBUs. This alone, may result in an increase in sales.

On another note, if other manufacturers are able to assemble bikes in India and lunch at reasonable prices as CKD units, would like to understand why Triumph is not doing so.
