The Ducati Multistrada V4, now unveiled

https://www.rideapart.com/articles/4...py-shots/amp/#

Ducati is getting ready to complete its trio of V4 models. We already knew a Multistrada V4 was in the works. Between the bike first spotted out and about on the Italian roads last summer and Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali candid admission that the new V4 powertrain would makes its way in the Multistrada, the table was set. It was not a matter of if anymore but rather a matter of when. The answer to this could be sooner rather than later.

As part of consolidation the same engine will make it to all 1200 series. A V4 is great engine for touring purpose and should be a good fit for both Diavel and Multistrada. The street fighter makes 208bhp, however since this is a sporty-adv with riding modes, I expect the peak power to not exceed 160bhp at crank. The sound and power delivery will be better but the service (especially desmo) will be more expensive.

This one has been going for quite a while. Don't know when it will arrive in India, may be end of 2021. One of my friend is eagerly waiting for it.

Holy cow. 160Bhp @ crank means almost 190-200bhp, that is almost 30% than current output of 1260 series. The best part would be the weight reduction as V4 is fairly light block compared to current L2.

On a lighter note, it would be pretty interesting to see these V4 adventure bikes checking their oil level. As per ducati service personnel, after a run, the bike should cool off for more than 2 hours before oil level can be ascertained.

You calculated it the other way round. This 160 odd hp at engine translates to ~130 at the wheel due to transmission losses.

The following chart shows the current version making 133 on the dyno and they may bump it to match the S1000XR https://www.cycleworld.com/resizer/1...OFXIUDSNLE.jpg

Of course the Enduro mode will invariably cap its power to 100 hp even is the top end power is bumped.

My bad, got it other way round.

This happened due to previous rumour where it was stated than new multistrada V4 would be 190Bhp.

re: The Ducati Multistrada V4, now unveiled

It seems Multistrada V4 will come in only one version, not like present scenario where two versions are available, street & enduro.

Also they are very serious about cutting down some of its flab and thus make it more lighter & nimble along with the power output of V4. Read more about it in below link.

Ducati Multistrada V4 to be unveiled on October 15.

Quote:
The Italian brand uploaded an image of four pistons to its social media handles with the caption, "4 is lighter than 2. It can also be more compact. October 15. Be ready to #ChangeParadigm." Ducati has also launched a new page on its website for the new model, listing three more hints, calling them "theorems" scheduled for October 1, October 8, and October 13.

So finally wait is over.

It has arrived with all bell and whistles. It looks much sleeker than current iteration.

re: The Ducati Multistrada V4, now unveiled

The new 2021 Ducati Multistrada V4 becomes the world's first production motorcycle to get a Radar based advanced rider assistance system based on the ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) typically found in level 1 autonomous cars and this makes the 2021 Multistrada V4 the world's first level 1 autonomous motorcycle!. Only a handful of cars sold in India such as the luxury Germans, Volvo and the recently launched MG Gloster are level 1 autonomous with features like the auto park assist, adaptive cruise control with forward collision warning system and automatic emergency braking.

Quote:
Ducati have announced that they have commenced production of their new Multistrada V4 - the first motorbike to feature front and rear radar. The front radar works with a new adaptive cruise control system, automatically accelerating and braking to maintain a distance to the vehicle in front. The rear radar unit is for blind spot detection and will also warn of vehicles approaching from behind at speed.

The race has been on to become the first manufacturer to apply radar technology to motorbikes since 2018 and we expected to see the Bosch-developed radar units appear on the 2020 Ducati Multistrada 1260 GT. That did not happen and in the meantime, BMW, KTM and Harley-Davidson have all announced their intention to introduce similar tech.

So while the power output is 170HP ( increased by 12HP ) & tourque is 125NM ( decreased by 4NM ) compared to the current Multi L2.

Interesting to note that the Desmo service(Major service) which is in interval of 30000 Kms has been increased to 60000 Kms.

The Desmo service interval is a real boon . It helps to keep down the service costs dramatically. The normal service is in the range of 10,000Rs while the Desmo service touches 30,000Rs

Another thing is now the peak torque comes at 8750rpm up from 7500rpm in L2.

Below link contains all the details. Interesting to read the tech specs, seems the major service interval is so designed to navigate 1.5 times the earth.
