2021 Triumph Tiger 850 Sport, now launched at INR 11,95,000

Triumph Motorcycles has teased the new Triumph Tiger 850 Sport, which will be unveiled on November 17, 2020.

Tiger 850 Sport will share the 888 cc engine with the Tiger 900 range, it will be the entry-level model in the Tiger family.

Am I the only one seeing a strong influence of the Multistrada and the Panigale. Nevertheless, should be fun to see how this pans out. Thanks for the scoop.

With all my service issues, I never got around to finishing my feedback on the Tiger 900 Rally Pro but one thing that stood out to me was that the current Tiger series needed a no nonsense, simpler base version (preferably without that useless TFT screen!!), that was friendly on the wallet. I expected Triumph would wait a year or two to launch such a variant, but kudos to them for responding to the market so quickly.

Poor launch IMHO. 850 Sport is priced at £9300 as against £9500 starting price for the regular 900 range. But - it seems to be really down on bragging rights with just 85ps on tap.

Unfortunately, that is tone deaf pricing by Triumph India. The pricing on the Speed Triple was also a fair bit higher than what the market realistically expected it to be.

Im hearing some news of the Tiger 900 portfolio being rationalized in India. Lets see if that turns out to be true. I hope Triumph doesnt mess up the pricing of the Trident. That is their last big hope for volume sales. If they goof that up, then it will be tough going for the company in India.

The BMW 900 XR Pro is priced at 12.4L ex-showroom and comes with electronic suspension adjustment. So many people will not mind paying extra 50k for the BMW badge and the dynamic ESA. The Tiger should have been priced better.

But then the growling 3 cylinder engine of the Tiger will still have some takers. If it was prices at 10.95 instead, I think it would have been a hit.

With this price point for base variant of Tiger, I am tempted to compare it against the Versys 1000.

Leave hardcore off-roading aside, and the Kawasaki Versys 1000 has more to offer, and in style!

At ~11.2 L ex-showroom which is 75k less (~90k on road), the Versys 1000 offers Inline 4, 120 bhp/100 NM, 2 power modes and 3 levels of switchable Traction control and Cornering ABS (compared to standard 2-channel ABS on base Tiger.

Oh yes, the Versys 1000 also comes with factory fitted centre stand too

I think it gets semi active suspension as well? No?

Hardcore offroad is stupid on any of these bikes. Some simple gravel is about it. I would choose the Versys 1000.
