The M 1000 R is essentially a naked version of BMW’s flagship superbike, the M 1000 RR. It is powered by the same 999cc inline 4-cylinder engine but has been tuned to produce 209 BHP @ 14,500 rpm and 113 Nm @ 11,000 rpm. The engine features titanium valves, a new spring assembly on the exhaust side, narrower and lighter cam followers and optimized camshafts. The intake system features shorter intake funnels for optimized charge exchange at high engine speeds. BMW claims the bike can sprint from 0-100 km/h time in 3.2 seconds and has a top speed of 280 km/h.

The bike is equipped with M Carbon wheels and brake ducts integrated into front mudguards that are said to have been optimized for improved airflow around the fork legs and brake calipers.
