BMW S1000RR could soon feature active aero wings; Patent filed According to reports, BMW has filed a patent application for a new tech in the form of active aero wings for its litre-class superbike, the S 1000 RR.
The BMW S 1000 RR already comes with winglets positioned near the headlights, which increase downforce & keep the bike's front end firmly on the ground at high speeds. Now, BMW is said to be planning to push the performance of these wings to the next level.
As per the patent, the active aero wings will adjust their angle via actuators, ensuring that they are parallel to the ground even when the bike is leaned over taking a corner. While BMW doesn't explain how the mechanism works, they do state that it helps improve downforce in corners, offering better grip - ultimately resulting in improved lap times.
However, as with any patent, it remains to be seen if BMW actually brings the active aero wings into production anytime soon.
