Is there any restriction on the registration of bikes with more than 500 cc in kerala?

Unless the resitrictions have been put in place recently. Kerala follows the MV Act of India with admistrative tools in the form of Kerala Motor Vehicle Rules.

So if MV Act permits registration elsewhere in India then it should be the case in Kerala as well. There may be some issue with the Pollution Standards Compliance. If the bike meets those then this should not be an issue.

I knew of few over 500 cc bikes that were registered in TVM between 1979 and 1992.

If they are make an issue of it ask for reasons under the Rigts of Info Law and they will have tell you why precisely.
