Need help on used SBK's Pricing as of 2010 - Affected by official launches?

Hey Guy,

I went through many post on Used SBK pricing on Team-BHP however most of the post are old and I guess with official launch of R1, Busa, Baby Ninja etc. in India I wanted to know what are the used SBK's price stay now as if 2010

I know that most of the SBK's don't loose their price like the way cars do but still now with Yamaha's, Honda's and Suzuki's launching their heavy bike in Indian market where do the yesterday's import stay on value chart??

it also depends, whether the bike is legal or a grey market import.
a cousin's R1 Aug 2008 in Mint showroom condition with 3.5K kms on odo.
went for around 6.6.

This is something that I have been trying to evaluate too. But, not much progress... I have been looking for a showroom purchased Hayabusa 2008 and later and looks like it may be around 8-10L. Try Motorcycle classifieds. Free ads for every country. (India section) and The No 1 Bike Portal In India. Buy or Sell Bikes. Motorcycle Sales - Bikes4Sale.in for more information.

Others: Please do chime in with your inputs/views. Thanks.

If I am not wrong R1 is sold at 10L+ price tag in showrooms so 2 year old was sold at 6.6L that's almost 40% less considering the fact of 20% depreciation per year

Now I have seen Ad's of 2001 model R1 with asking price of 5L or 2006 model 600RR with price tag of 6.5L

So my question is what should be the prices of these clean imports from year 1998 to 2006 ???

I have been through many such websites and found the prices unrealistic specially with official launches of SBK's in India, that's the main reason I started this thread so that SBK experts on Team-BHP can share their experience and knowledge

As i said, when you are looking for a used SBK,you dont ask for the condition of bike first, you should ask for conditions of papers
if you need a hassle free ride, buy a new one out of the showroom, there are finance options available.
Well price difference between grey market imports and legal bikes is huge.
but.
With legal bike you get peace of mind
with a Grey market import you get sleepless nights.

Akshay,

I agree to what you said but the question remains unanswered

Do clear paper 2000 model R1 or 2005 model RR deserve 5L+ price tag?

As I mentioned I want know where do the clean imports from 1998 to 2006 stand in pricing now?

Well 5L+ is too much for a 00 R1,what do you mean by clean papers?
is it in the name of actual owner?
have all the import duties been paid?

The guys who buy these bikes out there are either those who can afford them and those who can't but buy them cause they are enthusiasts.

Those who can afford them don't think twice before going in to the showrooms and getting a spanking new and clean machine.

Those who can't but are enthusiasts and really want one, will definitely consider saving as much as half the amount for a new one and get a fairly old, clean bike. If i do not have deep pockets but really want one, i will definitely consider a 6lacs+ R1 from '00-06 with clean papers over a brand new R1 from thes how rooms for around 10lac+.

Also remember, enthusiasts with no deep pockets have probably 1 or 2 windows of opportunity to make such a hefty purchase. Life and expenses catch up fast and one simple accepts the harsh reality of life as one grows older. Killing your desires is for some reason called getting wiser.

I guess thats one big reason the used bike market still demands an unreasonably high premium when compared to the prices of a brand new machine. I may not be ever able to afford a brand new R1 but if i had 6lacs and really wanted to own one, i would definitely consider giving a little premium to a used bike rather than simply not owning an SBK ever. Emotional crap i guess with little room for logic. But thats how it is i guess.

IIRC, Manson sold his 99 Thunderace, which had clean paper, for 4.4 lacs.

There is no fixed rule to decide the right price for a pre-owned superbike. I am quoting few prices, to show the kind of variations that can found in this market.

A 03 ZX-9R, asking price: 2,85,000.
A 95 GSX 750, asking price: 2,20,000+.

^^Both these bikes are from Delhi.

Clean papers = DRI cleared / Customs paid / All papers in place

Now this is what exactly my question was if there is any specific calculation to determine the prices of these yesterdays imports

Why 95 GSX 750 expects 2.2 L when 03 ZX-9R is quoting 2.85L

Very simple really, the demand for a clean used 2000-2005 era sportsbike far exceeds the supply, and hence the unrealistic pricing differences. Exactly why I've always been of the opinion to spend an extra lac and buy something atleast 4 years newer when discussing purchase decsisions regarding superbikes of the 90s.

However to work around the same, after a lot of looking around I had deviced a small, very basic formula which I will try and put down in detail for you sometime tommorow.

Somehow my post yesterday didn't get through. Anyway, here is a thought. How about we take 3 popular bikes, 3 different years, 3 different mileages and see what could the pricing be in each of these cases.

The assumption is that all these are legally clean and in good condition for their mileages.

1. R1
2. Hayabusa
3. CB1000RR Fireblade

Years
1. 2004
2. 2006
3. 2008

Mileages
1. 5000 KM
2. 10000 KM
3. 20000 KM

I think there is no hard and fast rule in place for used SBK prices. It depends on condition of the bike, papers and also desperation of buyer or seller. Then the rarity of the model. The fewer the bikes, pricier they get.

Even I would be looking at this space ! Thanks for starting the thread.
I got the quotations for the on-road (incl. reg, insurance etc) price from show rooms :
2010 Yamaha R1 : ~ 14.91 Lakhs
2010 Hayabusa : ~ 13.75 Lakhs
