Re: Used XL6 vs Honda WR-V vs Maruti S-Cross as my first car?

Go for the S-Cross. It gives the maximum bang for your buck. Probably the only large car that handles like a hatch. You get 4-wheel disc brakes, good space, decent engine, good handling, Maruti service peace of mind, neutral looks that might age well, etc.

Re: Used XL6 vs Honda WR-V vs Maruti S-Cross as my first car?

Thanks to all. It's been extremely overwhelming to see the kind of support and advice I've received. Now here comes the trump card in the battle, need your help again.

Had almost finalised the S Cross when I came across an ad for a 2020 Ecosport Titanium Plus, on OLX Cars. The ad was put by a local dealer. Dad went with our family driver and checked out the vehicle. I'm not good at negotiating, and have only been able to get the price down to 7.7L.

The 2019 edition Ecosport is the 1.5L BS4 petrol variant. It's got all the features of the S Cross, and a few more (ESP, BA etc.). Dad loved it.

So here comes the dilemma. Looks wise, it's the Ecosport. It's smaller and therefore, likely more manoeuvrable. It's got all the bells and whistles for the city, and at least on paper for the highway as well. Dealer is cool with letting me take the car to any service centre/workshop of my choice for inspection any time I want.

I am leaning towards this one. Please advise.
What should be the fair price for the same?

With Ecosport vs the S-cross, you gain outright performance and lose a bit of FE. I own the 2018 Trend Plus AT variant. It is a joy to drive. FE in city(Pune) is 10 kmpl. Highways 14-15 kmpl.

7.7L is fair price for 2020 Titanium Plus MT.

I wish I had voted for 'other' instead of S-cross (to mean the 2018+ Ecosport top-end AT if you can find one!).

Re: Used XL6 vs Honda WR-V vs Maruti S-Cross as my first car?

I own the older 1.3 diesel S-cross and it's hands down one of the most fuss free ownership experiences I've had - I only upgraded the tyres right of the showroom to Yokohamas from the sad JK tyres it came with.

We currently own a few other brands - Hyundai & Honda and previously had the Linea and Vento. In that price range, the S-cross is miles ahead in terms of driving. It's really well built by Suzuki / Hyundai standards. Hope this helps. Best of luck.

Which car did you finalize? Just curious because I have both a Kia Sonet HTX iMT and Ford Ecosport S TDCI. Both have been trouble free (not even a single niggle), and would recommend both over the S Cross.

Got a 2020 petrol S-Cross, 17k kms run, from a True value dealer at 8.5L.
The engine's butter smooth, handling is to my liking as well. However, it runs out of breath soon enough and 80-100 kmph climb is a marked contrast from the ease with which it picks up from 30 to 70 kmph.
Ride is comfortable; suspension and seats are good. Body roll is less (very important to me).
The stock tyres, however, as everyone knows at this point, are pathetic. Might replace them with the UC6s soon.
Overall, not regretting the purchase one bit, though I felt I might have overpaid a bit.

I had toyed with getting a S Cross before buying both ecosport and sonet. But it's biggest strength- SPACE wasn't a prime requirement for me. Hence dropped it.

Wish you many happy miles with it. S cross is one of the most mature cars to come out from Maruti.

I'd have gone with the Ecosport myself had Ford not exited India. However, it was also the prospect of cheaper and easier maintenance and repairs that made me settle for the S-Cross. And yes, it does feel roomier, though I feel the Ecosport scores slightly higher on overall comfort.

Thank you for your kind wishes.
Wishing you many, many happy and safe hours of motoring as well!.
