Re: Hyundai Creta Facelift | Which engine + gearbox combination would you buy?

My pick would be the Diesel AT. It is a jack of all trades. You have enough power, good fuel efficiency and very refined for a diesel. The second would be 1.5NA with CVT for a relaxed driving manner. I am still not convinced by the long-term reliability of DCT boxes so that's a no for me.

Definitely, the 1.5L Turbo Petrol engine paired with the 7-speed DCT offers unmatched power on the highway, complemented by its crispy response.

Not trying to start Seltos vs Creta but practically if I opt for petrol Creta, the only reason is to have that IVT transmission in higher trims. If the choice of engine is 1.5TGdi, Seltos is the better candidate.

Re: Hyundai Creta Facelift | Which engine + gearbox combination would you buy?

I am owning Creta AE 1.5 NA CVT. Perfect for my office commute in Mumbai, from Navi Mumbai to Nariman Point. Daily I drive it for 80 kms and really enjoying it, irrespective of bumper to bumper traffic or freeways. I am getting a mileage of 15 km/ltr too.

I drove it twice to Kerala after my purchase in October 2023 and ODO is at 17000 kms. The performance on highways was also good, but not great though. Definitely you will miss the punch which Turbo offers, but for those who want to cruise at 90-100 km speed, this is perfect.

Voted for 1.5 DCT. I own the same engine and gearbox in my new facelift Alcazar and so far, am very happy with its performance. This engine is a gem with enough power on tap for highway cruising as well as for city. If mileage is the priority then stick to Diesel manual as nothing can beat it and Hyundai manual transmissions are a breeze to drive.

Voted for 1.5L Turbo Petrol + 7 speed DCT. As my running is under 7000 kms per year in the city plus it will be fun and fast to drive.

Re: Hyundai Creta Facelift | Which engine + gearbox combination would you buy?

1.5 NA + CVT

The 1.5 NA coupled with the CVT does a great job for in-city commuting and occasional highway runs. Infact, I would stick my neck out and say this engine and gearbox combo performs better than the 1.5 NA CVT on the Elevate !

Reason for not chosing the diesel: Delhi-NCR. Enough said.

Reason for not chosing the 1.5 Turbo Petrol: Well, for most of the applications, be it in city runs and occasional highway runs, the 1.5 NA does good for most part. Now, for me, I would personally not spend 2-3 lacs more for an engine whose true potential would only be unleashed on national highways, and even there, I would not rather risk the adrenaline rush of the added performance risking me and my dear one's lives. I would rather drive sedatly and for that the NA does perfectly well. Besides, the CVT is still the smoothest AT out there, even the DCT cannot match it in smoothness. Prove me wrong !

Re: Hyundai Creta Facelift | Which engine + gearbox combination would you buy?

Ideally, the 1.5 turbo + MT...
In the absence of that option, the 1.5 NA + MT looks more appealing. The performance is lost, but I'm still not a 100% convinced on the long term reliability (100k kms) of a dry clutch DCT in the harsh Indian conditions of stop/go traffic, potholed roads causing a lugging engine all amidst hot summers.

1.5 diesel 6 speed manual. Yes the 1.5 DCT is fast but this diesel is an all rounder thanks to its torque. Turbo petrols cannot match the pulling power of diesels.

Moreover this engine gearbox combo shall be way more reliable in the long run than its turbo petrol counterpart.

You'd be surprised! The Creta turbo has 250nm of torque and when combined with the horsepower on offer, it simply blows the diesel out of the water.

Agreed, Sir. But how many times you get the chance to redline the damn thing?! The diesel is a fast performer too on the highway it'll keep you happy. Plus the peace of mind thanks to not worrying about that DCT and the unmatched fuel efficiency, will also keep you smiling.

Re: Hyundai Creta Facelift | Which engine + gearbox combination would you buy?

My pick would be the 1.5 TGDi + 7DCT.

I'd rather deal with a somewhat probable DCT failure as opposed to a definitely possible DPF failure, with a lion's share of my usage being within city limits only.

Also, that sweet 1.5 Turbo!!

Re: Hyundai Creta Facelift | Which engine + gearbox combination would you buy?

Voted for 1.5 Turbo petrol with DCT
I was seriously considering the 1.5NA with IVT for a friend who was buying for city use and occasional highway runs. Drove the 1.5 NA and realized - though it is a great product for its target customers, its not for me. There is very little character that one can enjoy. I am all for it when a car has a character/quirk and being a driver I am dealing with it. These days turbo petrol engines are so much fun (especially the mid range punch) that I find NA engines are borderline boring to drive. For me its the 158 BHP turbo plus DCT hands down.

Don't want to live with a upcoming govt regulation fear so would stay away from diesel, else that refined 1.5 plus 6 speed AT is a great combo too.

I don't have the 1.5 with DCT but my 1.4 DCT has done 72,000 km over 3.5 years with a highway (70%) and city (30%) mix. That DCT has been loads of fun on the NH and SH but a complete let down in the stop/go traffic across various cities.

My vote would be for 1.5 NA IVT combination which feels ideal for sedate driving style in city as well as highway rides. This would offer linear , smooth acceleration with decent FE.
