If it is a second car (when your first is an XUV 7OO) and shall be driven by your wife that too 100-200 Km in a month which is very low, there is no point spending big on such a car. I guess for the kind of requirement here, hatchbacks are best suited. If you aren't convinced on one, I suggest take time to convince yourself (and your wife) on that because all other options are over-budget especially when you already have a bigger one at home.
Hence, it could well be an ICE, given the fact that they still are better VFM than EVs (current scenario only). For such ICE vehicle stick to cars under 10 Lacs. It could be Hyundai, Honda, Maruti or Tata. Stick to the budget. i20s, Amaze, Jazz, Balenos, Altroz - they all are hatchbacks/compact sedan but well respected in the market.
You may also look at pre-owned options if budget is less and you still want to buy a bigger car. Just make sure it should not be more than 3 years old, should have done not more than 10-15k on odo, has full spotless service history and no accidents.
However, if you believe in future proofing more than saving upfront, then go for EVs with 40-50 kWh battery pack. Tata, Mahindra, MG have good options.
In no way fall for pseudo-SUVs. India's love affair with SUV and thin pockets have forced Auto OEMs to go for such Pseudo-SUVs which globally stand nowhere. I am glad you own an XUV 7OO which in all respect is a SUV. Better stick to vehicle which are true to their form and are very well equipped and designed.
