Buying a new SUV/MUV in Chennai

Hi Friends,

I'm returning to Chennai by end of Feb. Planning to upgrade from Indica to an MUV /SUV.

Requirements :
a) Dailly commute to Office (Kolathur - Guindy - Occationally to Sholinganallur ) & Self Driven. There is a mix of City / Highway traffic and bad roads.
b) Monthly usage of 2500 KM's & Occational drives to Kerala (Twice an Year). So prefer a Diesel Vehicle.
c) Need to Carry 5 People & One Infant
d) Budget < 10 L
e) Safari 2.2 is very well in my wishlist. However , family is not very positive about it.

Based on my understanding after reading various threads in this forum , I think an Innova G4 or Scorpio SLX will fit for my need.

If its Innova , which dealer in Chennai is good & what discounts I can expect? also how good is Innova on Bad Roads?

help.

The Innova is much much more comfortable than the Scorpio. Since you plan on seating five adults and one child, I would strongly suggest the Innova.

Lanson Toyota is the only dealer in Madras for Toyota vehicles.

why not wait for Tata Grande.. it can seat 6+1 or 7+1 depending on the seating configuration you go for and it should be within your budget as well
Engine is the new 2.2 l and gear box is tried and tested of old sumo.

If its going to be self driven, I would suggest a driver oriented vehicle like Scorpio or Safari rather than Innova. Innova is excellent choice if its going to be chauffeured.

Go for the Innova as you've mentioned 5+ passengers. Also, good to drive in the city.

There is only one dealer for Toyota - Lanson Toyota, has showrooms in Koyambedu and Pallikaranai (Velachery). You may not get much discounts, but can get some freebies worth about 10k.

Not sure what you meant by driver oriented. Innova is very refined and capable vehicle.

Wind_mill,

Like several others, I will recommend Innova to you.

If you work in IT, check with the HR folks, Lanson has some deals with Companies. Innova would be ideal since you have said Kollathu - Guindy the roads are good, and decent traffic, the Innova will be easy to navigate.
Also, it will be great on the Highway. The 2.2 Safari is also a good option, as it is roomy and has a commanding view of the road. Take your family for the TD for the SAfari.

Innova suits you best. Lanson Toyota has showroooms in Koyambedu & Nandanam. Koyambedu should be convenient for you. For scorpio, there is india garage on nelson manickam road

I meant Innova is not a easy/fun to drive vehicle like Safari or scorpio. The seating position, road view, pickup, handling in traffic etc,. are better in Safari and scorpio comparitively. If you are going to be driven, Innova is miles ahead.

Go for Innova, gives you a better turning radius in the City as well when compared to Safari.and more comfortable, effective braking.

Not but not the least....the 2.2L Safari's are pouring like rain in our team.has a good road presence...

Agree with you about the seating position and road view. That's where the superiority ends. Innvova is definitely more maneuverable than Safari in traffic. It is so much more refined than Safari/Scorpio. IMO, the one and probably only one negative of Innova (as compared to Safari/Scoprio) is that it is a mini-van (and so it looks like one as well).

Innova is the vehicle you can trust. It is more refined than its counterparts like Safari & mHawk. can seat easily 7 people, good A/c, comfortable, more leg room. Hands down my choice would be Innova. However, TD all teh vehicles and then decide.
