Getting hold of a Ricer Jeep

A friend of mine , after driving a cut chassis jeep has suddenly been bitten by the jeeping bug. unfortunately it doesnt seem to have bitten him right. He drives a spark otherwise, and thinks quite logically usually ,suddenly wants a jeep to match the following criteria

diesel
no power steering
should look macho
cost < 1.5L
planning to buy after 6 months

I'm not sure if the above is a good idea, tried to talk him out of it, but still won't budge, even after a month. So here I am posting his request. We're in tvm, so some place nearby would be helpful. either pointers to getting such a vehicle, or why he should not ( I'll be sending him the link to this thread ) would be appreciated. no serious offroading, just for bad/muddy and other types of non existent roads

DABWALI JEEPS. Try and find a Mallu equivalent. Also do send a link to wierd and wacky thread for him to upload the Jeep(which is not one) pics.

Oh and get a cowboy hat, helps the Macho image.

PS: Macho is an attitude, not related to what you drive. Lot may not agree though.

A Dabwali example, 20" rims, cowboy hat and maybe a BB gun in a shoulder holster. And yes, 4-5 antennas!!

I totally agree with you Spitfire.

@ Greenhorn
If you were in Mumbai I would have recomended you 2 Jeeps I have seen recently.

The One I saw yesterday at Borivali was a Olive Green CJ3B with the 4X4 Removed , Engine changed to Toyota DI, Alloy Wheels and lots of unwanted accessories. The delear quoted 2L for the Jeep but was ready to negotiate.

The other one I saw a few weeks back was a Red and Silver WILLYS, again 4x4 removed and with a Amby ISUZU Petrol Engine. But the Jeep had lot of original accessories (Looked like). The delear quoted 1.75L for this one and after a week had offered it for 1.25L.

he does have taste. I dont think he would want his jeep to show up in the weird and wacky threads either. I just said ricer because his intention was not to take it off road, but just for the satisfaction of driving a jeep. just something which looks like a proper jeep, but a diesel powered 2WD one

I have another friend who can source a cut chassis jeep at a moments notice locally(an example we drove cost significantly <1L, and handed like a skateboard, and would have made a worthy entry in the weird and wacky thread) , so we want something slightly better.

They are skateboards, with seats attached. Helps the driver to stay inside.

Pick this up and do it up. Dosent cost too much to work on a Jeep.

And off-road, maruti 800 will perform better!

Whatever happens, stay away from thodhupuzha/muvattupuzha, lots of dealers there waiting to take people for a ride.

O.T: there was a good example for sale 4X4, in good condition, tastefully done up, lemme see if its still available.

@greenhorn: with all due respect, if your friend does not want a 4x4 or want to go off-roading then why post this in this section. ??

IMHO, there is a What Car: SUV/MUV etc section where this thread belongs to.

true. when I thought of posting it, this forum was what came to mind first. I guess you are right. SUVs, MUVs & 4x4s - Team-BHP is the right place for this thread. I'll ask to mods to change it
EDIT: wow , that was fast, thanks R

It would be a good idea for him to read up on the many Jeep ownership writeups of Team-BHP. Living with an old Jeep is not easy, especially after you are used to the convenience & reliability of a modern hatchback. Let him first know what he is getting into. Then, bring the SWB Jeep on!
