How long are they supposed to last?
Ours is at 41K and got the pads checked at 40K service, and got a thumbs up that they are fine.

@RJS: Thanks. Have told dealer to go ahead with brake pads. Regarding Shocks, I am trying to source Bilsteins from Germany so am waiting. OEM shocks here is Gabriel costing 2.5K and Bilsteind might cost close to 5K. So that's where I am at. I mostly drive alone in NCR on good roads.

@Comfortablynumb: Yes its first brake pad change. I am little luckier in that I usually drive in off peak traffic on good roads but generally I avoid braking by keeping a safe distance at that speed if I can't overtake from either side. Also I keep changing lanes so i dont have to slow down by applying brakes...That's one of the reasons my JK Elanzos have anoth 15-20K remaining in them. That's what I was told by the manager of a wheel balancing store recently.

Hello people, I just had a query regarding my 2010 Dec model Scorpio VLX. It has been quite sometime that I have been on highways and today by chance I was driving over the PVNR expressway and thought that I would engage the cruise control and to my horror I find that it does nothing the vehicle slows down. I tried it several times but it failed. So I call up VVC service guys and they advice me to get the beast in to have a look. Did any of you people face this kind of a situation?

Check if the brake lights remain on all the time. Explained in detail here...

Another irritant is a little rubber button on the brake pedal, that engages the brake light switch. The rubber self-destructs in a few thousand km, leaving the brake lights glowing and the cruise control out of action. That's easy to fix - with a bit of hard plastic and a couple of drops of Fevi Kwik. The last time I did that was over 20,000 km ago, and I haven't had the brake lights come on unnecessarily till the time of writing this. When cruise control fails to engage, the first thing to investigate is that little rubber button.

As SS has mentioned, it is most likely your break or clutch sensor. Can you also check if your Micro hybrid is working?

Last night took the Crde out for a drive and it started fine. Though in retrospect, it looked like something was amiss. Anyways 5 mins later, when I stopped to get something, It didn't start again. Had the krrrr-sound when I tried to start. Some orange-light started flashing on the dashboard. Checked if the battery connection had got loose or something but that wasn't the case. Got it push-started and reached home. In the parking, tried to start it again but same issue (same krrr sound). What could it be? In my Jeep when this happens, I usually rock it back-and-forth in 2nd gear and then try again and that usually works. Not sure how these ECU engines work.

Wife's car so don't really use it much but glad it was me and not her when this happened.

My front RHS window stopped working recently, it would wind up only about of couple of inches down and stop. It was making some sounds and a oily line was coming through on the glass for last few weeks but finally it stopped completely.

Took the car over to a local garage, one of the supporters (white plastic arm) had broken and the entire winding assembly had to be replaced by cutting the rivits and reinstalling with bolts.

The assembly cost me Rs. 780.00 & Rs. 300 for the fitting.

If you can tell which light was flashing (engine check ? , as it is usually orange) it may get more insight on the issue. The krr sound would be the ignition turning but the engine not firing.

I have had this issue, the problem was on acccount of one of the connecting wires which had broken. The vehicle slows down because once you apply the cruise control and leave the accelerator the ECU is not taking over the control of the fuel supply.

The battery is Sep-2010 Amaron 80 mAH. Is it past its life?
The light was the orange one here in the CRDe cluster:

Cant make out much from the image, let me crosscheck with my mHawk cluster, it should be similar. (What is the shape of the image).

The battery should be fine, my 2007 original is still going strong, but check if you are able to run the headlights with good power.

Anyone has a pdf version of the Scorpio manual? Very useful to have it on your laptop/tablet but have not been able to find one yet.

Probably the armature of the self starter motor.
Either it is not making full travel to engage with the flywheel gear or the armature gear teeth are worn.

It is called the Self Bendex. This needs to be replaced. Simple job, and not too expensive.

I'd call it a bendix. And yes, it could be the bendix or the solenoid that makes it articulate with the flywheel splines.

As it turned out, the battery had gone dry and one of the battery cells had conked off so had to replace the battery. To eliminate all doubts, everything worked fine with a different used battery so the culprit was correctly identified. Picked up the SF Jumbo 8800 for 5200 Rs.

Additionally, in the Crde, harshness/vibration is a bit too much at idle and even during the drive. Is there no solution to that? Engine/body mounts? Any fuel/engine oil/transmission additive? I used Mobil Delvac MX this time but it didn't reduce the harshness as much as it does in my TCIC Safari.

Is the old one a Amaron Black battery? I had a Amaron Black in my CRDe and it gave me exactly 23 months life which I thought was very less. Thinking it a one off case I replaced it with the same battery again. Now I wonder if the Amaron Blacks life is just around 2 years while most other batteries serve a lot more.
