Hello all, As you all know that I have Tata Sumo Grande. I wanted to check the manufacturing date of my Grande as I am having so many problems in my car since beginning. Opened the bonnet to check the chassis number. After copying the number I just realised that it had only 15 digits while the chassis number has 17 digits even the chassis number of Grande mkii has 17 digits.
Now I want to know whether it is normal or not. If dealer has played some foul game then I will take the matter to the court. I purchased my car on October 2009. Members please help. Hope for early response from you all.
Chassis no. for a vehicle manufactured in 2009 must be 17 digit AFAIK. Don't know why your vehicle has a 15 digit VIN, check with other similar vehicle users (preferably similar manufacturing period). If different, get corrected ASAP as it is WRONG!

Thanks for replying. I think they have played a very foul game with me. I will upload the picture soon. Every car I think has only 17 digit chassis number.
also, validate the entry in your RC. what is written there?
I checked the RC also and on it the chassis number is same having 15 digit.

HappyRoadie - A couple of things I can suggest.
- If you don't mind, can you post the 15 digit number for us to look at.
- Check your service history. What's the VIN on service bills/ job cards.
- Finally, you can go to tata customer care website and enter your reg # in the section where you log in online compliants. As you enter the regn #, if shows the basic details like owner name, address and VIN. Cross check with that. Or you can call the tata toll free number as well
- Do you know the exact production month of this vehicle, not when you bought it but when it was made. If there is a substantial gap between purchase and production (>3 months) then there might be something fishy done by dealer
Please update us.
I posted the chassis number here but everyone said that the chassis number of my car is strange. But anyways here it is 465156AQZ900731
I know that it has been decoded. But I dont understand that why my car has 15 digit chassis number while other car's have 17 digit chassis number. ?
Members thanks for your help. I have found out that my car was manufactured on January 2009. I took the delivery on October 2009 so due to this the confusion was there regarding chassis number. Now I would like your suggestions. Should I take a action against the dealer because he sold me a 9 month old car or if their is any other action I can take then do let me know.
Thanks
But why was it a 15 digit VIN instead of a usual 17 digit raises doubt in my mind. Are other similar cars also having the same VIN? If NO, then you have a strong case in hand.

Their is no problem with chassis number but they have sold me a car manufactured on January 2009. Is it alright that I was sold a 9 month old car or I should take action against them? Is there any law for such cases? Please guide me.
Thanks

The production date and registration date are not same and neither are time wise.
The only time you have a point is when the car you bought as new is not on the (at the time of buying) spec level as the sales brochure says being an older production run.
Hi all,
I am in deep confusion at this stage.
I had booked two cars with Skoda, one a superb 1.8 TSI
And a Rapid 1.6 TDI.
I have made all the payments and the delivery is due for tomorrow.
I went to the showroom yesterday for a PDI, but couldn't do it for some reasons at the showroom's end.
The VIN no. That he gave me for the two cars are.
Tmbbbe3t6ca301313 and Tmbblhna9cg028861
The rapid was manufactured in aug 2012
And the superb in May 2012.
The dealer says that the car was dispatched in november from the factory and has shown me the proof in his database.
What shall I do now ?
The superb was the last one he had in his showroom.
I can't ask for another car.
Shall I take a 7 month old car or shall I not ?
Please someone help me out, it's urgent.
I would rather wait for a new car except in case the dealer offers me a fat discount on the May12 car.
And why cant you ask for another car ? Unless the car is invoiced and registered , you still can ask for a new one.
