Hope Hyundai takes the damaged unit and does a quality assessment.
But what about the mental agony and embarrassment?

Won't they compensate you for this?

However, was it any trouble or the dealership (and further to them, the company Hyundai) accepted it as a defect without much ado?

Drive safe.
Since they didn't find any accidental damage to the car they accepted it without any issues.

Accidents and breakdowns happen without one's fault such as this. If anyone has to be embarrassed it is Hyundai for such a part failure

We would've been really agonized if this happened on a different time/day/place. But for what happened now its not much.

If you have the time and patience, I suggest you take this up with the big-wigs at Hyundai. Bring it up in an email or a phone call. Make sure you get the point across, and tell them that you're very disappointed with the quality if essential components of the car.

Hopefully, Hyundai will check the other cars on sale now, and the ones that have been sold. If it's a defective part, there could be other cars fitted with the same part of substandard quality.

It would be wise on your part to inform them about this. Perhaps, a major incident could be averted in the future.

Re: 2009 Hyundai i10 Rear Suspension Collapsed!! Torsion Beam Cracked!

Sad to see a 2 year old vehicle in such a condition. Fortunately no major damage to under-body and thank God the vehicle was not fully loaded and driven at low speeds.

BTW this is very clear that material is the culprit here. From my experience even the test vehicle under abuse driving & loading condition never reported the beam failure. That too i10 has a closed press C-section in which the failure is never expected other than the weld area.
Looking at the initial photographs I thought the failure could be at the welded joints, which is pretty common. This is a peculiar case and covers under warranty.

Edit: just noticed you are getting replaced under warranty

Sankar, how did the replacement go? What all parts were replaced or was it just the Torsion Beam?

Torsion beam and the suspension is a single unit. So the whole thing except the springs and the dampers were changed.

Replacement went smoothly, they ordered the part which came in a weeks time and another few days to finish the job.
