Hello everybody,
Today morning when I was driving (surrounding temperature around 15C) my car (Opel Astra) was jerking very heavily whe engine was cold.
Specially when I slowed down for some reason & start to accelerate again it would jerk very heavily as if there is no petrol (there was about 15 litres of petrol). And it was running fine then after
Me not being a morning person this was the first time I was driving car at such low temperature this season. Last year I can not think of any such problem.
Usually when I leave for collage the temperature is around in lowed 20s, no problem that time.
Recently I have had fuel filter changed.
I drive light footed.
On my way back when engine was warm no issues.
Could anyone please help ?
Thank you in advance
It used to happen on our "Carb Esteem" but, never on the Vtec, Wagon R or Innova (which are all MPFIs).
I hope you let the engine idle a bit before you move on.

ya shan2u was right. nonetheless, its always a better practice to let the engine run idle for a minute or two to allow lubricants get to working temperature especially if the engine is cranked after long period of time.
Never happened to me with newer cars with MPFI. Maybe your car wasnt an MPFI one and hence the problem. We used to warm up our old Fiat's thought before a drive.
Adya, you better cross your fingers and hope that this is not what I think it is.
Used to happen to my Astra every 2 years. Just before the Ignition module went on the blink and costs Rs.4,000 to get a new one. If Its not the ignition module, then it could be the fuel pump, which happenend to my car as well.
Not to hijack this thread or anything, my Zen MPFI (2001, 60k) started doing the same after I changed the engine oil to Castrol GTX Magnatec. Not very heavy jerking but the auto-choke will be on during that time and if I try to accelerate it does jerk. Is it normal ??
hey adya...
you just got run the engine for some time...specially in a carb engine...once the temp gauge starts movin..everythin wil be just fine..nd please dnt accelrate as soon as you start movin...its not such good thin to do when the engine is cold..
Thank you everyone for your suggetions
RTech: I will get fuel pump checked as soon as I get little free time also is there any way to get ignition module?

Like RTech said my cars problem was related to ignition module
My mechanic has put a temporary ignition module and problem has appeared to be gone
so that was most likely
Otherwise you may wait till engine gets hot
thats very abnormal for a fuel injected car,but for a carburetted one its goodmorning stuff, check out all the sensors in your car if they are working fine,it can be due to some lose connector.

could you please ask your mechanic as what he ment by "due to single point fuel injection"
because
Astra is not carburatted, it has an ECU
so technically speaking this problem should not be there
replacing fuel filter, air filter doesn't make sence if you ask me if car isn't jerking once engine is up to temprature
as for warming up I am pretty sure Astra doesn't need it. My mechanic (ex-Opel service manager) has confirmed it & also stated in car manual (will confirm it by tomorrow if anyone needs it)
timing belt on my car has been replaced but i can't remember the milage at which it was done, all parts on my car (even if replaced are stock - execpt tyres)
starting problem is not present in my car but I have had battery changed in recently
Hello,
Get the following done.
1)De-carbonize the engine
2)Clean the injector
3)Change the plugs
4)Clean the throttle body
These things should solve ur problems

Hi,
my friend had a similar problem like this
If u feel the trouble while acceleration while the car is in movement thn u need 2 throughly check the Spark Plugs And also the connecting cables.
There cud b a problem with tht.
Enjoy Revving...
Check ur Ignition coil and spark plugs &cables.
I suspect them.
