A long press on the lock button of the ignition key (with the key inserted) is all that is required to either enable or disable the reversing siren. As SDP had pointed out earlier, the same siren / speaker that is used for the car security system is also used for the reversing siren.

I tried this several times today to enable the reversing horn. Apart from one small beep at the end of the first attempt, no change. Will try it again tomorrow. Debuda, have you actually done this in your car, or are you quoting the manual ?

The manual does not say anything about inserting the key. After reading your input I tried with insertion, but no results.

My undnderstanding is that the first-time enablement (of the reverse-horn) has to be done at the service center. Once that is done, you can enable/disable it (along with the security alarm) any number of times with the long-press of the unlock button on the remote.

I have done it this way and tried multiple times after that. Works for me as intended. I am able to enable/disable the security-alarm+reverse-horn at will.

Ok I was at the G3 workshop a few days ago and tried to enable/disable using the above.
Realized that the first time it needs to be enabled with the laptop. Thereafter (like on my own vehicle) it can be enabled/disabled using the "key inserted press lock for about 3 secs(indicators light flashes)" procedure.

Also you can enable/disable the "Auto cop" alarm in the same way but without inserting the key in the ignition.

My understanding was that without the key in ignition, if you press the lock button for 3+ seconds, both the reverse-alarm and security-alarm toggle between "enabled" and "disabled" state.

What you seem to be saying is that:
1. Key NOT in the ignition + 3-seconds press on lock button = Enable/disable security alarm
2. Key in ignition + 3-seconds press on lock button = Enable/disable reverse-horn

Gerard, can you please confirm my understanding?

Good info Gerard.
I tried doing the key-in-ignition thing after reading it here, but it didn't work. This goes on my list for the next service.
thanks.

This is correct. Can anyone else check and confirm especially one with a camera installed?

Yes, I actually did this in my car and it worked. But as SDP and Gerardfdz have clarified, the first time enabling of the reversing siren has to be done at the A.S.S. with the help of software. I too had got my reversing horn enabled by the A.S.S.

I shiver to think what would happen if it had jammed hard and the belt snapped or worse still, jammed the pulley causing the engine to freeze.
I had a bad experience in my Fusion where a mechanic dropped a bolt into the timing belt. The entire engine had to be opened, and new pistons/ head etc to be changed.
They are recalling vehicle to replace a stupid insignificant piece of plastic on the wiper - But such failures which have been reported time and again by a vast number of owners are nor being looked into!!
Where are their priorities!!
It time Mr A. Mahindra work up and whipped some rear's for their "chalta hai! " attitude.

In face the Mahindra person who came home to explain the features of the XUV after delivery, himself asked me about the low beam and suggested me to change low beam bulbs (projectors) to Philips Blue vision ultras.

Gerard F, thanks for sharing the pics. My XUV belt snapped and the RM mentioned that it is due to the Siren, I have asked for the Siren to be removed as my RM mentioned that Mahindra is redesigning this part. The belt has been replaced in my case. I will post pictures of the siren and check for any damages. You are right Mahindra Engineers should be whipped as they are sending a recall letter to change some insignificant parts. The engine belt issue is pretty serious. I would urge XUV owners to consider removing the siren horn and wait for the redesigned one.

The new design siren/hooter is already present and has a better quality connecting part. For existing ones which haven't fallen yet, they put a additional clip (or plastic wire tie) to prevent the hooter from falling down even if the connecting portion breaks.

Please check out debuda's ownership log for details about the old design and the new design hooter.

did you get a resolution for this? my car is just 3 days old ( covered 890 kms though) and I'm facing the exact same issue except for abs warning. There's no fixed pattern in which the warnings pop up! I just hope its not a new bug that's been uncovered

I had the exact same problem as FG. Yesterday they fixed it and my SA told me that the connecting wire to that sensor had burnt out and has been replaced. No recurrence of the problem so far, but it's early days. Will report in case it recurs.

My car was taken yesterday by Anant cars to get the warning lights issue rectified. Got a call today saying they had finally found the issue. Some wires had been chewed by the rat when it entered my car months back. Now the wires were exactly the point I had been asking Anant cars to check right from the start. Hope the issue is resolved finally. Need to drive for the next few days to check it out.

Am happy that the issue had been solved, but then this checking could have been done during the first running repair itself rather than requiring 3 separate visits to the service centre. Infact during second time at the service centre, it was outright confirmed wiring was checked in thorough and was not the culprit. At times I feel these A.S.S guys dont listen to our suggestions and try to find complicated solutions like checking the error codes, swapping sensors etc without checking out the basics. End of the day wasting both their time as well as putting the customer through some hard times.

Guys, a strange request -

I have a XUV which I got on the 4th of September 2012. I left for UK on the 15th of September and have not seen the car since then. My family has been using the car and except for the first two services, it has not been to the A.S.S.

But since I left India, a lot has happened with the XUV with respect to recall, part changes as preventive measures, etc. Now, I am coming back to India soon and the first thing I intend to do is - take the XUV to the A.S.S. and get all the nasty or troublesome parts replaced.

Can you guys give me a list of all the issues I should look for, whether it is the brakes or lights or software upgrade of the infotainment system or even synthetic oil for the gearbox. I mean, I want to list out all the items which can probably go wrong and get them rectified once and for all in my car.

A few of the issues I recollect are:

1) Brake grinding noise - change to Galfer brake pads
2) LEDs in headlights going kaput
3) New ORVMs with improved stoppers
4) New wiper blades (recall)
5) Clutch (can someone remind me what the exact issue was!)
6) Software upgrade of Infotainment system
7) Synthetic oil for gearbox
8) Siren touching belt
9) New brake pedals

1) Brake grinding noise - change to Galfer brake pads - Yes. Critical. These are available only for the front wheels by the way
2) LEDs in headlights going kaput - Not needed. Our batches don't have this issue. I doubt, they would replace without a failure.
3) New ORVMs with improved stoppers - Not needed. Issue with old batches. Are your ORVMs rubbing against the door panel?
4) New wiper blades (recall) - Yes. Its a small plastic part of the wiper assembly.
5) Clutch (can someone remind me what the exact issue was!) - Clutches from initial batches were failing because of leakages and design issues. Not a problem with newer cars. Get a verification done to ensure that your car has clutch from the right batch
6) Software upgrade of Infotainment system - Yes. Lots of changes
7) Synthetic oil for gearbox - Stock oil is semi-synthetic. The service center might argue about warranty.
8) Siren touching belt - Yes. Get it replaced or get them to add that clip/tie which ensures that the hooter does not fall down even when the connecting portion breaks.
9) New brake pedals - Yes. This is a must. M&M is tight lipped about this. Insist for it. Along with the new pads, it makes a day and night kind of difference to XUV's braking.

Besides thes:
10. Front power window motors - These were part of recall. Not a problem with our batches. But get it verified.

11. Power steering high pressure hose. This was part of recall and replacing it is critical.

12. Check if your reversing horn is enabled.

13. Check the AC vents (especially second row). A few don't open. A few others don't get closed completely.

14. Balancer bar bushes. Get them replaced if you are getting some noise from front suspension.

And finally, the eternal problem which possibly still does not have a permanent solution

15. Vehicle pulls to the left. Get the alignment done once again.

Hi..

Got the rear camera, rear crash guard, side beading and non illuminated scuff plates installed today at anant auto, Bangalore. Total came to 9K.

Got a doubt - is there any way we can toggle between the rear parking sensor view and the camera view? When I engage reverse gear, I only get the camera view - but the beeps are from the sensors are still audible

Thank you very much buddy.

I have no idea whether the ORVMs rub the body panel, I will have to check that when I reach Mumbai.

Ok, then it must be semi-synthetic. I remember reading that the new oil smoothens the gear shift, especially 1st and 2nd gear.

So the entire brake pedals will be changed with a new design right?

...

Yes, there is a new design. With the new deisgn, there is no dead-zone before the brakes start to bite.
