I too have the exact same experience when trying to down shift from 2 to 1 with the vehicle still moving. The 1st gear is a bit difficult to engage. It works fine when starting from stand still. But of late the shift quality has deteriorated a bit. |

I also had the same problem, got it checked and although the RM agreed that the gear is a bit hard between 2-3, his argument was that it happens, and that if the gear is shifted at an optimum speed it will be smooth, but will act hard if engaged at not an optimum speed...Altough i dont buy it but have adjusted to live with it.
Apart from this, I feel that sometimes, the acceleration in 2 gear is quite jerky around 1600 to 1800 rpm. This happens only occasionally, and even though I reported it in first service, nothing was done as it could not be reproduced. Even I took the RM and the mechanic on a test drive, but the issue did not happen then. |
Even i have noticed it, and i can feel it regularly. I feel a slight sideways jerk when its the right time to move from 2nd to the 3rd gear. Noticed it after your post only. So another thing to get checked :Frustrati

applied lubricant to the "lock assembly" as per rm
what i understood, was that the hinge/latch on the door that latches with the B pillar had to be greased
later i couldn't find any grease on the latch so i am guessing that they must have applied a light coat of oil (e.g wd40)
Couple of observations..
As Abhi had pointed out there is an unhealthy lateral (sideways) vibration when shifting from 2nd to 3rd. I read this in Zigwheels Long term Test drive report and one more test drive report of a magazine. So it more likely appears to be in every car. Can other owners confirm this pls. This happens when you accelerate in 2nd before you shift to 3rd.
The power windows are slow and creates a whiny sound when you take the window up. Feels a little cheap actually.
Doors close without an issue as of now. Thanks Vaibhav for letting me know the fix.

Throw of headlights is the only serious problem I have with my car and hopefully I will have the answer by saturday, 30 Jun when I take the car for servicing. Will keep you posted

It is a known problem, I guess one will have to get used to it just the way one has got used to the brake judder and a little erratic gear shift. RMs are throwing some bum kum as justification but these are design or production deficiencies of the car. Hope they are resolved by M&M in third series under production now.
Frankly, I have started to enjoy these idiosyncrasies of the car especially the brake judder and won't like to fiddle with the mechanisms unless absolutely essential.
Cheers
Even for me these are not deal breakers. Unless something happens that leads to a mechanical failure of the car, I dont really care for these things, since they do not intervene with the mechanical operation of the car..

Throw of headlights was adjusted during the servicing of the vehicle yesterday and tested last night on a dark road. The dark wedge visible at low beam could not be removed but has been moved considerably further and has stopped bothering. So happy night motoring on the highways.

Thank you for the update, looks like the height level was adjusted. I need to get that done, I was driving NH7 last night and felt it very short at so many times at high speed, had to switch the high beam on. However, I fear if we adjust the height level it will start blinding the oncoming vehicle (on two lane roads) or you will start seeing some gestures from the sedan/hatch driving ahead of you.
Did any one find a solution for the "Outside air coming into cabin during recycle mode"? I am due for second service & hope to get this sorted out.. Sireesh (Banalore) has no clue.
One issue I noticed is the left audio channel output is audibly weaker than right channels. Tried with different sources, CDs etc, results are always same. To make the sound balanced, I need to slide balance adjust two points to left side (When my ears are placed at right angle to the screen). Left channels miss the punch and clarity of right channel for sure in my car. This was initially noticed by a well known Installer in Bangalore, so I cant doubt my sound sensitivity. Can someone confirm this on your car by sliding left / right control under sound sub menu?
Another query: Where do I switch off the auto volume adjust function? In manual it says can be adjusted by through sound menu, but I don't see any option there.
EDIT: I had upgraded my speakers to Rainbow comps in front and Hybrid audio coax at rear. But issue persist. So I cant doubt the speakers in this case.

Does anyone confirm whether XUV comes with Dual Horn or not.
We have W8 and when I went for installation of aftermarket illuminated scuff plates in Mumbai, the dealer suggested to install the second horn as he noticed that the car is having only single horn. Was in a hurry otherwise definitely gone for it.
My GPS Navigation doesn't work anymore.. When I press the NAV button, it says "Loading...xxxx" and then it just crashes and goes to Radio/USB mode. Tried multiple times by switching off the engine, etc etc..
Did anyone face this problem?
I was looking at used cars in Carwale.com and found a number of XUV5OO with very few kms clocked on sale. I also found quite a few XUV5OO on the classified section in Hindu last Sunday.
Wonder what could be the reason that a number of owners want to sell their vehicles with such few kms on board. If it is due to the niggles, I simply hope Mahindra is able to sort out the issues with the car, else the high sales will soon be a thing of the past.

The best part of this car is road presence and ability to cruise at 120-140 all day long. No stress or strain to the engine and the ability of the car to handle those speeds with ease. BEST HIGHWAY CRUISER among the SUV's/other cars at this price range. Mileage was 14.8km/lt.

Folks, glad to share that my Road Trip to Leh/ladhak with the W8 was done without any critical issues.
Attaching two pics that hopefully should be able to assuage concerns around the reliability of the XUV :
1) Conquered Khardungla Top (highest Motorable road) :thumbs up
2) Survived the snow/hail storm at an altitude of 18000 feet :Cheering:
Not sure if i should have posted these pics in the niggles thread, but thought of re-assuring people that whilst niggles certainly do exist with this SUV - but it it does come out a winner in treacherous/off road conditions (mine is a 4x2 and not an AWD).
will post the niggles faced sometime soon.
cheers
Sid
Awesome Sid.. This is a great re-assurance. Thanks for sharing.
Next year I will be on a road trip to Leh Ladakh from Chennai and this is truly superb to hear that the XUV performed well. Pls do share the niggles faced as well. That will help us to get prepared.
