This seems to be a perfect solution for my parking problem :) . A new covered park will set me back by 3L Rs.

IMO, such systems costed close to your covered car park prices only! Plus your developer's approval regarding its impact on fire system effectiveness may be taken.

Large systems costed 2L per space in 2008. tata had some company that provided turnkey solutions for large setups IIRC.

Are these similar in operation to two/four post lifts in service station? If yes they don't come cheap either.

I have seen this setup in Hyderabad, If i remember correctly it was in the underground parking below the reliance digital shop in Banjara Hills.

Looks very effective , but would need a high ceiling to work

This is a Hydraulic Elevator, customized for parking. I do not think it will be less than 3-4L. Apart from the Lift, you will need some sort of mechanical locking device to prevent crushing the vehicle at the lower level, in case of any mishap.

I am looking for one for my residence to be fixed outdoor.

This is again a Hydraulic system, with all its pros and cons.

If you have space, why not build a steep ramp for the second level parking.

I personally like systems where the parking levels are fixed civil structures (just a multilevel building) and access to each floor is via a single hydraulic elevator.

I don't have any background on this, could you elaborate the pros and cons?

Also how much would something like this cost?

Honestly - dont go in for this. If there is a mechanical failure(Hydraullic) you would be spending through your nose for maintenance.

Hydarullic lifts are expensive. It costs around 15+ lacs for a lift catering to G+2 floors (Parking on 3rd floor), including paperwork and unofficial charges.

I agree with Aroy - Civil construction is anyday better. I am in the process of constructing my house and i have allocated the ground floor / stilt for parking only.

1. Piston and Assemblies will have to be changed in 5 years.
2. Hydraullic Oil Filter will have to be changed once an year.
3. Periodic maintenance costs like leaks, inspections and oil top-ups are around 3000/- per visit and recommended once every 3 months.
4. Outdoor installation calls for more maintenance as its exposed to elements
5. Hydraullic failure "lock" mechanism costs extra.
6. You always run the risk of children & Adults fiddling with it (Outdoor install)
7. You MUST always park your small car (lighter) above and your SUV(heavier) car below for maximum safety, eventhough the load rating is high.

Just to clarify, I plan to install a two vehicle stack parking and not a lift based one

Would you suggest an alternative to hydraulic then: pulley system or hand crank even?

Do you know the approximate cost of such a two car parking system?

There is an electronic Lift system with a series motor. That is the best bet for you with minimum maintenance. The Pulley is self lubricated and almost nil maintenance, except for periodic lubrication. Current consumption is on par with AC.

Please check both 4 post and 2 post lifts. I think it should set you back by 4 lacs.

Civil Construction is normally maintenance free, while any mechanical/hydraulic system calls for regular maintenance and at times license to operate.

A simple Ramp of 45 degree will take up only 10 feet of "ramp space" extra. You can use the triangular space under the ramp for storage - as is done under staircases.

In case you use heavy duty steel for ramps, you can fold them up once the vehicle is up, so there is no space wasted.

In fact for a 4 car garage, construct a 2 car garage
. Construct a 2 car garage
. Design the roof to cater to at least 2xCar Weight, say 4 tons (for an SUV)
. Have 2 sets of Steel Ramps on hinges
. Once the Car is on the roof, fold the Ramp. If properly designed, each ramp will also act as an edge barrier to prevent the car from rolling back.

We have a basement parking in an apartment complex in Bangalore and we have a two car parking systems for parking two cars one above the other as a car lift. This system is provided by Armatic Engineering and is about 8 years old. Of late we find lot of issues in maintaining this through them as their response is very bad to calls. We are looking for any alternates for servicing. Meanwhile we also are thinking of completely replacing the lift by any other manufacturere if viable.

This is where I thought of seeking some assistance here from people who have either such carlifts or have some experieince with the car lift systems in India. These are individual car lifts to park two cars one above the other and not like the automated huge complicated ones found in some of the Mall parkings.
