Mobil1 Supersyn and Maruti Warranty

Wanted to put Mobil1 Supersyn for Baleno done 9000+ Km on the 3rd service.

Intention was to know what grade of Mobil1 Suspersyn to use (i.e 5w40,5W50,20W40 etc)..

Talked to the Maruti Engineer in the local Maruti officer. The engineer emphatically told me that Maruti does NOT recommend any synthetic oil on it's cars. And even though Mobil1 is better than the MGA oil they put in , using Mobil1 supersyn would void the car's Engine warranty.

Does anyone have more information on this.

No manufacturer can void your warranty for using better than specified lubricants... My dealer - Hyundai - also told me the same thing - and quoted the manual - the manual says you need to use "SAE XYZ or equivalent/ better" .. no where does it say you have to use only the oil supplied by the dealer.. when I showed them this they backed off..

Do the same thing - they will back off... if they dont - put the oil anyways...and if ever they refuse the warranty due to this - SUE THEM!! You'll win hands down... and make pots of money!!

The guy was supposed to be the main engineer for the whole region include Chd and the twin cities. He did sound like a mechanic though

yeah, i told them that i will take the car out from the service station and put the oil myself right outside the door in front of their eyes.

I think the dealers are very reluctant to go this route coz it eliminates the INR 200 or so of the profit that they make when they put in the MGA oil.

As an aside can someone plz specify which grade of Mobil1 supersyn should i put in the Baleno -- 5W40 , 5W50 or should it be something like 20W40?

i think this is a ploy used by all companies so that they can bill u same here with ford when i went in for my first service(fiesta 1.6) asked one of the personal weather its okay to use mobil1 weather it will void my warranty and the answer was yes and the best part they had a temporary stall inside selling mobil1

Go with 5w50. Ignore the mechanic or the engineer and use Mobil 1.
