Ford Figo Fuel Indicator Needle Stuck at 3/4 Level and A/C Hissing sound

1) My 6 months old Ford Figo D Exi model's fuel indicator needle gets stuck at 3/4th level even though I do a tank full and DTE hovers between 560 to 570.

The needle or the DTE is unchanged till the fuel goes down below 3/4 level and then it starts moving properly without any issues

Got this issue for the first time once about 3 months ago and after that it was normal. From May last week, the needle stopped reaching the full level for the last 3 Refills of Full Tank (with slight top up)

Read some posts where it was stated to check a aluminium color cyclinder with a glass cover and check frequency of bubbles. Not able to find such a cylinder from the engine bay.

No major changes in the mileage which is around 15+ for complete city AC driving

I always Switch off engine, get down and release the Fuel lid. Go near the attendant and check if he had taken out the Diesel gun and then tell him the quantity. No suspects there. Also I am filling up at a very prominent and good Ekayars Bunk @ Venkatnarayana road, T,Nagar, Chennai.

2) Offlate also started hearing a occasional hissing sound from A/C. Cooling drops slightly and then hissing sound comes and then the cooling improves. This cycle keeps repeating every 1 or 2 minutes.

Please help me identifying this issues in 7000 Kms,6 months old car.
Also is it a indicator of any bigger problem to come up. Should I get it checked from Ford A.S.S.

Thanks for your help.

Fuel Gauge issue - Replace fuel sender - quick and easy-might have to drop the fuel tank as well.

AC hissing - it is normal for a slight hissing sound - check if this hissing sounds comes at full blower or min speed of blower

Re: Ford Figo Fuel Indicator Needle Stuck at 3/4 Level and A/C Hissing sound

Not sure about the fuel gauge issue, but even my Figo TDCi gives out that hissing sound whenever AC is switched on.

The hissing sound also comes when the compressor starts again depending on the driving conditions. But one has to hear it carefully to notice it though.

I believe this is normal and happens with atleast Palio 1.2, Spark and Figo. These are the cars I have driven extensively and can vouch for it.

Thanks Obsessedby Fiat and Catalyst Delhi.

Then let me take it to the A.S.S and check the Fuel guage issue.

For A/C, let me leave as it is now and take a call if the cooling drops.

The hissing sound could be what others have mentioned. But there is also another possibility. Not trying to scare you but sharing something that could be another reason.

This problem that you have mentioned could also be a problem with the Evaporator. Warmer air blows through the evaporator and gets cooled. Looks like a car radiator and is inside the dashboard for the figo.

It is a common problem for the evaporator to leak and give out the hissing sound (coolant gas leak). The cooling will drop and become zero. And in chennai in these summer months that is going to be trouble. Do take your figo to the service immediately. The Service center will replace the evaporator on warranty and the coolant gas and labor is also incuded in the warranty.

The another reason could also be that the air ways in the evaporator is clogged with dusty lint (like you see on cieling fans) and produces the hissing sound. This is less dangerous and can be solved by blowing compressed air on the evaporator.

Sometimes you can see the corrosion nad leak on the evaporator the moment you take it out. then you would have to replace it.

The repairing of the evaporator is tough since the leak could be anywhere in those tiny air ways; Pinpointing the leak is tough but plugging it is close to impossible.

Regarding your fuel gauge it seems like a problem that we used to have in Fiats and ambassadors of yesteryears when the float inside the fuel tank fills up with petrol and doesnt float all the way to the top when tank is full. Show it to Ford A.S.S., should be fixed within warranty. Nothing to be worried about on this one.

Regarding the A/C, Its normal for the compressor to keep cutting in while the engine is running. It happens more when you do cold start but even after warm up it does occasionally cut on/off. No sure about the hissing sound. If the cooling is good then probably not an issue. You can show this as well when you get your petrol gauge prob fixed, but doesnt seem anything serious unless cooling stops.

Re: Ford Figo Fuel Indicator Needle Stuck at 3/4 Level and A/C Hissing sound

You can hear the hissing or liquid entering type of sound even in home air conditioners. You feel the drop in cooling because @ that time, the compressor cuts off. When the compressor is On again.. you hear the refrigerant circulating (hissing sound) and hence the rise in cooling. So basically its not an issue. Mist (During Rainy Season) and Hissing Sound is normal in AC's. I am attaching a scanned copy of a home AC user manual to clarify:
Ford Figo Fuel Indicator Needle Stuck at 3/4 Level and A/C Hissing sound-fffff-001.jpg

Get the fuel guage system checked in the A.S.S.C.

Just came to know, they take the complaints from facebook very seriously.
Just give a try as I was informed about that, they compile all such relevant complaints daily and make the Customer support respond.

Re: Ford Figo Fuel Indicator Needle Stuck at 3/4 Level and A/C Hissing sound

Due to work and other issues, lived through the issues (the Cooling also went down gradaully) and finally gave it for fixing along with 2nd Service.
Car has completed 8700 KMs and 7 months old

Four Complaints - AC Cooling issue, Fuel Guage Float issue and two rattling issues one from Left Door and other from Back seat or boot (right side)

Gave the car on Tuesday this week and yet to get in. Estimated time when I gave the car was 3 Days . By far the largest time I ever waited for the car.

Called up and asked for update today morning to confirm if the car will be given for delivery today -
AC issue - Evaporator coil replacement - In progress and estimated to complete by 4.30 PM
Fuel Guage - Float was disconnected and reconnected as claimed by the SE - Fixed yesterday (Wednesday)
2nd Service completed ( Completed on Tuesday)

Was wondering will it take this long. Also he was highlighting that the rattling is not fixed and he was trying to buy time.

I got mad a little, I told him to fix or give me replacement car. Since I am planning a trip, I told him that I will keep the car for 3 days.

Lets see, this should make him complete the work quickly.

Re: Ford Figo Fuel Indicator Needle Stuck at 3/4 Level and A/C Hissing sound

Got the car back on 12th Evening. The steering was tightened properly and since I took delivery late at 7.30 PM, there were no technicians and hence had to take it back on Friday.

Apparently, when the open the dash to fix the AC issue, they did not tighten back the steering.
  • The Fuel guage issue seems to have gone
  • A/C issue - Fixed, only Evaporator coil O ring was replaced and gas topped up (charged me for Gas top-up alone)
  • Rattling issue - Not fixed. The problem was identified later on Friday morning at the rear seat lock hinge. It was told that it is due to Seat cover fixing outside. No solution given though, as I had to leave to office I took it back. Will have to take it back.
Total cost was Rs. 2424/-.
