Alto powerless after Engine wash

Hello

I have started my alto in morning and it was fine , as i was topping up windshield water , i looked at engine bay and it was too dusty. i sprayed some water in engine bay with engine running. the car was fine but as soon as i reversed , it struggled and engine stopped.

I tried starting it but was not successful. i left the car there with open hood and told brother to fire her up in 1 hour.

now he has called that the car is started and running but has lost all its power.

Now can somebody explained that what went wrong ??? This was not first time i was washing engine bay , it has never happened to me earlier .

Waiting for your valuable suggestions.

Regards

Jas

Is it firing in all its cylinders? Water in the plug wires can lead to misfiring and loss of power.

Is the engine check light on? If so, the car should be in limp mode. It recently happend to my friends Fiesta.

Try clearing the error codes. ie, remove the battery terminals, put key in ignition press brake pedals, turn on HL's. After 15 mins, refit the terminals.

It should work.

I agree with Rajeev's opinion here.

One question though. How easy or difficult is it to find out if the car is misfiring, I know it is easy in a 2-wheeler.

You should not spray water with hoses inside engine bay. Now I can think of the following things you need to check.

1. Distributor got water in it. Remove spark plug wires and wipe.

2. Water entered spark plugs. Remove and clean.

3. Water entered air intake. Remove air filter (or disconnect throttle body) and check.

Let us know.

Dont be scared its a simple diy

You have got water in the distributor, all you have to do is that open the distributor and clean it up and while doing so you can take a piece of very fine sand paper and also clean the points

The 'distributor' doesn't have contact breaker points, is it not?

Problem Solved !!!

i left the car in sun with hood open for 2 hours and voila it started in a single crank without any problem.

Thanks for your valuable suggestions.
