The DCI engine from Renault comes in three tunes.
The 68ps tune in Verito, Pulse and MIcra
The 85PS tune in Sunny and Scala
The 110ps tune in Duster and Fluence.
What are the major differences between the three engine?

68ps : No turbo I think
85 bhp (Sunny/Scala/Duster) : A Fixed Geometry Turbo (FGT)
110bhp (Duster/Fluence) : Variable Geometry Turbo (VGT)

All these engines being same, the differences are very small. Actually the engine is designed for 102 ps, but 110 is the maximum output that can be achieved. The other 68 and 85ps versions are only detuned versions. Also theres a difference in the gearboxes off all the above cars.

The 68ps is having an FGT is what I think. I have heard the turbo whistle in many Logans/Veritos.
Verito and Logan comes with the turbo ,
Apart from the the variable turbo , even the alternator and AC motor are of high capacity
Talking about the engine alone, is there any difference in the construction? No, right? Then the difference in tune must be provided by the maps in the ECM/ECU? And injectors?

68 Ps definitely has an Intercooler. My car (see signature) was standing in the workshop for want of one for almost a month post the accident.
Edit: And yes, its also Turbocharged (for those with doubts). There is a whistle and a surge.
I feel that the size of the turbo itself is different. The 68 Ps is a mild turbo application, the 85 Ps is a slightly larger turbo, the 110 Ps is a VGT.

Can you check and see if you see 3 things that look like radiator. One for AC, one for actual radiator and one intercooler.

The Logan has an Intercooler - I am 100% certain of that.

This is the only front on picture I could find. We can clearly see the grills here. But I am not sure we can actually spot 3 grills in this picture.

I remember reading the different variants have different turbos, FGT/VGT, injectors and gearboxes to accommodate the additional power and torque.
For instance the 5 speed gearbox cannot handle more than 200nm and hence the 6 speed for the 105-110bhp variants.

- JB3 gearbox pretty much same as 1.6 16v.
- Engine codes - K9K 704, K9K 700
- OVAL PLATE CB07 (Inside of drivers door)
- Standard Turbo Boost Pressure = 1 Bar (14.5psi)
- Standard Fuel Pressure = 1400psi
- No intercooler
80 bhp - - Blue I in the word DCI on the sidestrip.
- Large Intercooler located infront of the radiator.
- Injectors 15% more efficient than 65's.
- Slightly different turbo to 65 (5435 970 0002 Borg warner K series).
- JC5 gearbox pretty much same as 2.0 16v. From 2004 onwards JH3 and JR5 boxes were also fitted.
- Engine code - K9K 702
- OVAL PLATE CB08
- Standard Turbo Boost Pressure = 1.2 Bar (17.4psi)
- Standard Fuel Pressure = 1400psi
100 bhp - - Blue CI in the word DCI on the sidestrip.
- Small fat intercooler (17% more efficient than 80 ic). Located infront of the radiator at the bottom.
- Same injectors as 80.
- Same fuel pump as 65 & 80 but runs at 1600 bar
- Again, more efficient, variable geometry turbo (5439 970 0030 Borg warner K series)
- Different block and head and different injection set up to 65 & 80 with the 100 having a stronger crank, stronger rods and pistons.
- Inlets on the head are bigger, different cam and ex manifold.
- Gearstick, reverse is down and right as opposed to up and left with the lift.
- Gearbox is a JR5 120. (5 Speed box as fitted to petrol lagunas, no renault 6 speed box fits!)
- Engine code - K9K 712.
- OVAL PLATE CB2G
- Standard Turbo Boost Pressure = 1.25 Bar (18.1psi)
- Standard Fuel Pressure = 1600psi
Misc -
The reason the Pistons were changed on the dci 100 was due to the extra fuel pressure causing issues with the 65/80 pistons - worth noteing if you plan on changing fuel pressure
The dci 65 and dci 80 turbo is good for 1.5 bar but the dci 65 will NEED an intercooler to reach these sort of figures reliably and really the dci 80 will need a dci 100 spec intercooler at least too!
The turbo repair kit for the all the dci turbos is the Borg Warner KP35 kit
A handy list of turbo part numbers and oval plate numbers which correspond to the mentioned vehicles. These turbo's do fit other K9K variations ( of which there are over a hundred ) the oval plates are just rough guide lines to help you on the Dialogys. The part numbers given are the Borg Warner number ( k series ) and not the Renault part number. The Borg warner part number can be found on the blower housing ( blue / yellow / red badge )
Yes Logan has an intercooler and is really visible behind the bumper. Personally verified it, when there was a small issue.
My Logan ( which was sold in August 2012 after 30K kms usage) had a small oil leak somewhere front bumper area. On opening the bumper we found that the hose connecting the intercooler was slightly loose, causing a small leak.

Its not only turbo, engine compression ratios are different too. Its similar for 68 & 110 PS version but 85 PS get higher compression ratio. That shows they are internally different.
68 & 110PS - 15.7:1
85PS - 17.6:1
