Power Steering oil Leak

Dear BHPians,
My Ford Ikon had Power steering leakage and the entier oil is gone. It is giving lots of noice, since oil is not available. I approaced garage and they told, oil seal was hit and got damaged. Oil leaked from there and need replacement. He is asking for Rs.1500 as labour charge as he needs to remove Steering completly and set the oil seal kit.
And the spare part (oil seal) will be costing 2000+.
So, totally Rs. 3500/-

Is the above price correct? My close relative drived for a long distance with this problem. I am really sad it happened to my vehicle.
I referred to the below link, but of noty much use..

Any ideas and suggestions are welcome..
thank you.

Are you sure that your mechanic is reliable? It could be just a cut in your hose. Anyhow, 3.5k sounds cheap as a friend had his rack & pinion unit serviced at a ford dealer for about 8K!

I am not sure how the mechanic is. This is the first time I am approaching this person. Today I got info that I need to change the entire Steering kit as it is linked to OIlSeal. Any repair to Oil Seal is not given warranty as it is not a permanent solution. The entire kit costs around 20k and we are looking for a used kit which will come with warranty. I have given this vehicle in Kormangala 3rd block.

Dear BHpians,
It is surprising nobody is providing enough info. Looks like I have fewer options left. Either go for a used kit or get Oil Seal fixed taking risk.

what you people say?

I have given my vehicle at Haymond Automobile Centre, BLR.
Is this a good garage?

I cant really comment about the problem because have never faced such a failure.

But i suggest you get an opinion of a second mechanic.
By the way, havent you tried the authorised service centre.

Drifter,
I have approaced Authorized service centre and they recommended to change the entire Kit which costs 18-20k.
A used one is costing 8k.

You're taking a risk with a used assembly. Remember that its going to be removed from a car only if there is a problem with it, or if its from a total loss accident car. Either way, dicey.

That's why I told to fix the existing one for the time being and if it leaks, I will approach Service Centre for replacing with a new one. I will get the Timing and others fixed by them.
