Drove my car through Salt water. Now what?

Dear All,

I visited Muzhappilangad drive-in beach in Kerala over the last weekend. I was initially driving on the beach sand but was tempted to wade through water hitting the shore.

Now, I can see a lot of salt deposition on the outer body which I will obviously wash. But what will happen to the underbody and all the other parts where salt can get deposited? How harmful is this? What best can be done to remove all the salt? I'm really worried now and regretting my stupidity

A simple high pressure under body wash should take care of all your worries

I would say just take it for a good car wash and underbody wash and you should be fine

I have done this numerous times and always ensured that the Scorpio has undergone a good pressure wash right after the beach drive.
I usually emphasize to get the car pressure washed at the very first service station.

My all time favorite at Muzhappillangad

Nothing to worry about , just do as the others say . But don't wait too long though for the underbody wash.

Sorry for going against the tide here, but I disagree.

There is no way a pressure wash will be able to clean each & every crevice, small opening and gap that salt water would have potentially made it through. Salt water = rust, especially on car bodies that don't follow best practices at the time of manufacturing / painting.

Then what do you suggest after the salt water run?

Will guys like 3M or such be of any help or another coat of underbody anti-rust could help after a pressure wash?

Salt Water = Rust , agreed. But once the water dries dried salt left behind should be harmless and will eventually fall off because of the vibrations and shaking. In icy conditions , the roads are salted. And the cars there don't get rusted right?

I think if you give a proper under body wash it should be fine.

Cars run on salted ice/snow filled roads do tend to rust, over a period of time.

My friends I have owned a Swift from 2005 to 2012 and the car started rusting with in 03 years of ownership only because I live directly opposite the sea so I would not take driving through salt water so lightly.

Won't the salt that is stuck after the water evaporates corrode the body due to its power and concentrating which is strong when dry.

I may be wrong. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

There is a mechanized washing center on the chala bypass. Its somewhere in between after the new bypass ends and before chovva gate.
Take it there
